Visitors recently got a tour of Gibraltar School’s $29 million middle school renovation project. The new central part of the school includes a new field house with two full courts. Until now, the entire K-12 building had just one full-size court, the only one north of Sevastopol school. It includes a new kitchen and cafeteria, commons area, concession stand, Viking Store and huge windows for natural light. All new middle school classrooms have tall windows, and hallways now end in glass rather than cinderblock. New art and music rooms, administrative offices, a greenhouse, and ADA improvements were also part of the renovation. At the entry, a display pays homage to all the one-room rural schools that were merged into the school over time. The taxpayer supported project is the most expensive public building project in the county’s history. #education #doorcounty
