⛓️‍💥 The Fathers of Willowhurst by Gideon Rathbone

REVIEW

My goodness, I don’t know how to review this read. It was an overwhelming experience.

Harsh, cruel, and brutal, and with a lot of s€xual activity. There are moments full of hope of light at the end of the tunnel.
Read this yourself to know if there is.

Nothing in this story was sugar-coated, so I will neither with my review.

It’s 1827 Georgia, during the slavery era, where Black people are lower than trash, where white people owned them and felt superior. (Nothing new huh?) The whites mistreated and misused them, abused them, r4pe them, and used them to fill their holes eh.. needs.

But through all this… there are some softer moments, and ‘love’ affairs.

It’s the story of Marcel, originally the son of a house slave, and Gerard, originally the son of an abusive town drunk.

The story follows them separately and where at some point their paths cross, and they get involved with each other. Where one was captured as the good-looking desired slave and one started a cotton plantation.

Marcel’s goal is to reunite with his sister. Gerard’s goal is to become someone prestigious.

“All good things come to an end, but every ending is a new beginning.”

The story is one of a kind. Immensely captivating, I was plastered to the pages.

The author has a compelling way of writing. The whole story was masterfully executed.
This is not a romance, there are somewhat romantic moments but mostly with ulterior motives.

I read this in one sitting and couldn’t sleep all night. What an impressive story!

PREQUEL OF THE MASTERS OF WILLOWHURST

Before Isaac and Talbot, there was Gerard and Marcel. Known as the son of the town drunk, Gerard, makes it his mission to better his life and distance himself from his painful past even if it involves murder. Marcel is the son of a prominent New Orleans judge and a house slave. With the death of his father, a tumultuous chapter of his life begins as it all becomes about survival.

Had to make this edit when I saw @tsmadison & @craigthewriterstewart on #phagtawlk talking about how she tiptoes in her heels to events. I IMMEDIATELY thought of @tinaturner's ICONIC entrance to the VH1 Divas 99 concert. Muva was DEFINITELY #tiptoeinginmyheels 😂😂😂

Happy Heavenly Birthday to my immortal heroine @tinaturner who would've been 84 today. First birthday celebration without her on the planet. Spending all day blasting her music & watching her concerts (no different than usual, I know), grateful for not just the impact she left on me, but on COUNTLESS others who dared to dream & rock their hearts out, despite the obstacles. She truly managed to turn poison into medicine. Made this edit of her life & her achievements to honor her, using one of my favorite tracks of hers, OPEN ARMS. Long Live the Queen Of Rock 'n' Roll!!
