6 down, 6 to go! I saw another friend share their 2023 recap and I liked it so much I thought I’d do the same. Here’s what we’ve been up to so far in 2023! 🐈🐈 our family grew with the addition of two furry friends, and honestly it feels like they’ve been with us for way longer than just six months! 🖍️ Maisie started going to day school four days a week and is having just the best time. She loves her teachers and it is so much fun to see the new things she’s learning everyday. ✈️ we took our first family vacation that required an airplane and Maisie decided she’s not the biggest fan of sand or the ocean anymore. 🐰 Maisie participated in her first Easter egg hunt with our church, I made a bunny cake for Easter dessert, and Maisie got to meet the doctor who helped bring her into this world for us. 🗳️ we all voted for Kurt in his Easton City Council primary (he didn’t win, but we’re already regrouping for a future try!), Maisie got to celebrate Mother’s Day with me, her Nana and her Gigi, and she also entered her pigtails era. ⚽️ Maisie decided she’s ready to be a soccer star, I spent a wonderful week in Maine, and we survived a week of ✋🏻,🦶🏻and 👄! Here’s to finishing the rest of 2023 with as much fun as it’s started!

Mother’s Day has been a hard day for me for years now. Years of infertility and wishing for motherhood, last year living in the infant haze, and this year felling like I’m finally hitting my stride as a mom, but aching at the recent loss of my grandma at the same time. I’m guessing this day will always be a bit difficult for me. But it was nice to share today with Maisie’s awesome Grandma’s. We laughed and danced and Maisie even left her very first pigtails in all day. She also fought almost every attempt at taking photos with me, just like she does everyday 😂. And I even think our two babies before Maisie stopped by as well for a bit - peep those two rainbows in the last photo 🌈 Sending lots of love to all the moms out there - whatever stage of motherhood you’re in. And thank you to the moms who have held me up over the years. I wouldn’t be here without you 💗

I haven’t posted in a long time, mainly because I’ve been ashamed that life has been difficult for the past several years. There have been trials that have pushed my mental and physical health to a breaking point but today, for the first time in a long time, I feel well enough reach out to you all again. I have been through massive changes, one being a existential crisis that has forced me to confront what it is I care about most. Thankfully, though, a door was opened that has led me to this point, where I might bring the weight of my skills and experience to bear on issues that matter to me and my community. I’ll share more about that when I can. The other crisis Mary and I have had to navigate together is a crisis of the spirit. Infertility (mine and Mary’s) is a brutal reality that took a great deal from both of us. However, with the financial and emotional support of so many friends and family, we found a way through. On October 8, 2021 our daughter Maisie Pearl Phillips-Carlson was brought into this world. I have been many things during my short time on this earth, but looking into her deep blue eyes makes me feel like being a father is enough. With that, I want to say “hello” again. My name is Kurt. I am a husband and father. I plan on sharing things about my family and the work I’m doing to ensure a more gentle and equitable world.
