An evening of giants 🦬 Join us for a special screening of ZUBR: Here Be Giants — my award-winning short documentary about the return of European bison to the UK and the people working to bring these extraordinary animals back to our landscapes. Once roaming across Britain thousands of years ago, the European bison is now part of one of the most ambitious rewilding projects in the country. ZUBR: Here Be Giants follows Don, a dedicated bison ranger, and explores how these powerful animals are reshaping forests, restoring ecosystems, and changing the way we think about our relationship with the wild. This is more than a film screening — it’s a chance to experience a story about hope, nature, and the future of rewilding in Britain. 📍 Wills Memorial Building – Room 3.31, Coutts Lecture Theatre 🗓 Monday 16th March ⏰ 7:00 PM If you care about wildlife, storytelling, or the future of our landscapes, this is an event not to miss. Come along, bring a friend, and be part of the conversation about bringing giants back to the land. #ZubrFilm #Rewilding #WildBritain #DocumentaryFilm #Bison Conservation BristolEvents

🦬 Don’s back but not for bison business 🦬 • It’s not just Europea bison that run the show in woodland areas. Don discovers some sawdust like markings by a fallen tree and discovers the markings of millions of bark beetles. 🪲 What if I told you they are more similar to bison than you think! They’re ecosystem engineers too! • Bark beetles get a bad rap for destroying forests, which they certainly can, especially when imported by humans to places where the trees lack natural defenses. But in the natural forests, they’re an essential force in the long-term health of the ecosystem, weeding out sick and stressed trees and increasing bug and bird diversity • What do you think? 💭 #forest#conservation#rewilding#nature

Don Won! 🏆🦬
🍃
Don and the team are absolutely over the moon to announce that ‘ZUBR’ is the Winner of Best Short Film at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival 2025 which was hosted in Mexico this year. This was such a fun project to create over the last 18 months.
🍃 To be noticed on a global stage with a debut short documentary is wild! It is the best feeling to know that people connected to this story, the magnificence of European bison, their emergence into UK wilderness and the underlying warning that we aren’t always so lucky to revive keystone species from the brink of extinction. They are truly the landscape engineers everyone doesn’t know they need. A walking biodiversity machine!
🍃
Thank you again to the whole team who made this pivotal story so engaging and inspiring. None of this would not have been possible without our fantastic bison ranger, Don, the kind people who donated to our crowdfunder as well as the support from our generous partners, Wildwood Trust, Films@59 and Wildreach productions. As well as the support from countless others throughout the process. 🍃
