🌿 A new book from a nettle pioneer!

Gillian Edom, author of the pioneering nettle book *From Sting to Spin*, has a new book out: *Fish Heads and Dust.*

Between April and June 2025, more than 100 foragers took part in the Wildbiome Project, eating only wild or foraged food for either one or three months. Gillian was one of the participants, and Fish Heads and Dust is her account of the experience — what she ate, what she learnt, and the questions it raised.

I’m already two chapters in and thoroughly enjoying it! It has also got me thinking about all the wild foods around us. I’m particularly looking forward to having a go at turning my own acorns into food - something I’ve tried before, with rather mixed results! 🌰😄

A fascinating read from someone who has been exploring the potential of wild plants and traditional foodways for many years.

Went on my first official foraging walk in Cobnor near Chichester. Our guide, Gillian, has been foraging for over 50 years and pointed out many edible plants that I’ve walked by (or trodden on) over the years. The best for me was the wild mustard plant. Note the mushroom at the end was not part of the official forage; Gillian recommends only picking mushrooms if you’ve been trained to do so, but one of the group was confident this was a very large funnel mushroom to take it home. I could only safely identify a puffball mushroom which would feed me for a week (and doesn’t shrink when you cook it). If you haven’t tried foraging, I’d recommend it. Was surprisingly interesting and great fun, and should save a bit of money! 🙂🍀🌿🍄 #foraging #foraginguk #cobnor #chichester #chidham
