Next week we close our current group exhibition, ‘As If the Ground Remembered’. As If the Ground Remembered’ is built on the idea landscape is never neutral. Looked at closely enough, it carries what has been and what is yet to come. The show brings together artists who, rather than treating land as scenery or setting, approach it as something closer to an archive. For them, a landscape isn’t just something to look at, it’s something that holds history, memory, and meaning beneath its surface, and their paintings try to uncover that, rather than simply record how a place looks. Whether painted from direct observation, half-remembered, or entirely imagined, each landscape passes through memory or invention before it reaches the canvas. What holds the show together isn’t a shared place, but a shared way of arriving at one. Don’t miss your chance to view the exhibition. ————————— Haricot Gallery 205 Royal College Street London NW1 0SG For more information on available works, please email harry@haricotgallery.com or DM here. 📸 @olliehammick

While we all have connections to a place or places, be it from childhood, a journey, a painting, a photograph or even a dream, the mysterious imagined landscapes of Gill Rocca often subliminally realise those places for us. They may occasionally hint at a narrative – the moon rising, the sun bursting free of a low haze; more often they evoke a feeling, a mood, a transcendental state of being. One of the most distinctive characteristics of her practice is her use of birch ply tondos or roundels in the ongoing Figment series. While the philosophical and aesthetic properties of a circle are well established, for Rocca the form accentuates the liminal space between her intentions and what subconsciously emerges during the process of painting. The tondos – and indeed all her paintings - are meticulously layered with thin coats of gesso and sanded back prior to the application of multiple layers of thin oil glazes that slowly and gradually build up the image. "A roundel, a circle a painted disc; it takes in the world just the way the eye does, a circular vision fading out on the periphery. Round paintings have this metaphorical association with the very organ vital to their making, and our appreciation. The round vision: the entirety of the world and the eye that sees it." - From the wonderful 'Thunderclap' by @lauracummingart @GillRocca Figment CXXVI Oil on birch ply; 80 cm diameter View this work at the British Art Fair with GBS Fine Art, Stand 14 ✉ For further information and artwork enquiries, please contact info@gbsfineart.com or DM us. 📍The British Art Fair runs 24 - 27 September at the @saatchi_gallery Gallery in Chelsea. @gbsfineart @britishartfair @gillrocca #contemporarybritishart #landscapepainting #roundel

We are thrilled that @gillrocca is exhibiting work in our current group exhibition ‘As If the Ground Remembered’ Gill Rocca Realm XIX, 2025 Oil on Birch Ply 11 x 16 cm Often made in series, Gill Rocca’s paintings vary greatly in scale, from intimate miniatures on birch ply to large canvases. She works with an intentionally restricted colour palette, applying oil in thin glazes to smooth gessoed surfaces. The landscapes Rocca explores in her paintings are always uninhabited, solitary spaces, often familiar yet otherworldly. Her work explores a dreamlike tension between reality, memory and the imagination. The gallery is open from Today to Friday from 11am-6pm and Saturday from 12pm-5pm. ————————— Haricot Gallery 205 Royal College Street London NW1 0SG For more information on available works, please email harry@haricotgallery.com or DM here.

This week at KOPPEL Collective Open Doors Gallery is delighted to invite you to their upcoming exhibition 'Second Nature', a group show bringing together a selection of contemporary artists whose imaginations intervene with the natural world, distorting and enhancing our perspectives. The artists brought together here share an attention to the natural world but approach their chosen themes very differently, pushing at the boundaries of their medium to examine the mysterious beauty found in nature. What results are landscapes that never quite existed, assembled from imagination, from childhood memory and through their unique artistic processes. Open Doors Gallery is delighted to present new artworks from British painter Gill Rocca at our group exhibition Second Nature next week. Available exclusively through OD. Gill Rocca [b.1971, Lancashire] is known for her imagined landscape paintings in oil. Rocca’s practice explores imagined landscapes, uninhabited and solitary, sometimes familiar yet otherworldly. She works with an intentionally restricted colour palette, applying oil in thin glazes to smooth, hand-finished gesso surfaces. Her paintings create a dreamlike tension between reality, memory and the imagination. “I find it interesting that photographic negatives, or thermal cameras, reveal a hidden reality. The other side of what we are usually able to perceive.” The Shadow Series began at the end of 2025 as a progression of her earlier work exploring light fading to darkness in an imagined wood. In these new paintings, the almost monochromatic palette gives way to more dramatic transitions. Eclipsed light. A palette suggestive of ultraviolet. The strange luminosity of a photographic negative. The five new works above will be on view at our upcoming exhibition Second Nature. The Shadow Series Each 22x17cm Priced at £3,600 including VAT For enquiries or to reserve work ahead of the opening, contact tom@opendoors.gallery Second Nature 10—13 September 2026 157 Regent’s Park Road Chalk Farm • London Opening Night | Wed 10 Sept | 6-9pm #gillrocca #odprintsales
