The Last Palace of the Champs Elysées, a Courtesan's Secret Grand Mansion.

There are many magnificent spaces in Paris to see. The last remaining example of the superb private mansions that once lined the Champs Élysées is the Hôtel Particulier, built in the 18th century for Marquise de la Païva, rarely open to visitors now is a restaurant.

It was built by a famous courtesan who came from humble beginnings in the ghetto of Moscow, from Poland. Esther Lachmann, aka La Païva, became one of the most infamous women of her time, who rose from the streets to marry one of the richest men in Paris. La Païva was a patron of artists that made the grandeur of the Belle Epoque style admired. Her goal was to build the "most beautiful hotel in Paris.

Built-in the decade from 1856-66 by the architect Pierre Manguin, this mansion is the sole remaining example of the magnificent palaces that once lined the Champs Élysées. It took ten years to complete Paris's most extravagant hotel. La Païva, commissioned artists unknown to the public, using some of the most precious materials to decorate her hotel, costing over 40 million euros, one of the most expensive commissions of its time. #takemethere #forthestylishexplorer
