I hear this on my 1:1 calls & workshops all the time, from makeup artists, hairstylists, photographers, and women in completely different businesses: “What will people say if I start posting myself?”

Of course you’re nervous. Posting yourself feels awkward at first. It’s a muscle you have to exercise, just like any other skill. Start small and keep doing it, you’ll get used to it.

But my Slavic therapy answer to “what will people say?” is “who cares?” In Russian we say people have their own cockroaches in their heads. Always have been and always will be, and you have no control of that. The sooner you accept that and realize that those cockroaches are not yours to fight, the easier things will get. You can love those people and wish them well without letting their comments decide what you do.

You have to think past “I don’t want to be embarrassed.” You’re taking time away from your family to build a business. It needs to grow. People need to see who’s behind it before they can trust you, and with God’s help, posting has helped me grow mine and opened up so many opportunities for my family. Someone thinking I look awkward online wouldn’t have done either of those things for me.
