What a year it’s been. As I try to catch up with clip posts of the year’s first readings, I’d like to mark time with an invite to join me (us) in a multi-lingual community reading tomorrow!, at Community Bookstore in Brooklyn—for the TBR Reading series, and launch of “B-Dragon Suite” by Stine An! Deets on slide 7.

Last month, I had the distinct pleasure of presenting a signature poem and talk on poetry organizing / community mental health at Harvard Divinity with friends, and returned to immediately give a co-feature for Unraveled Poetry back in Bayonne. Thank you to everyone who attended, read at or showed love for either of these awesome events. 🙏🏼🫂

This year rounds to a close with two fun surprises (TBA), an announcement, and finally, joining the 2026 Highland Park Poetry Festival (last slide for deets) with two poetic communities I love—our very own Unfold and P&SO in Hopewell. Look out for the flyers of those beautiful Group Features soon!

💙 🌓AOZUKIN — THE BLUE HOOD🌗💙

I’m excited to have this piece AoZukin — The Blue Hood, November 7–8 at Ideal Glass Atelier in New York City!

Inspired by Ueda Akinari’s Ugetsu Monogatari, this interdisciplinary performance reimagines a classic Japanese literary story through contemporary dance, spoken narrative, and live violin.

The story follows a Buddhist monk whose grief and attachment transform him into a figure feared as a demon.

Through movement, music, and storytelling, AoZukin explores desire, attachment, perception, and the fragile boundary between the human and the demonic.

Following the main performance, we’ll open the space for an artist talk and an after-party featuring guest artists from different disciplines — bringing together dance, live music, poetry, and visual art.💙

a little @smushgallery Summer Arts 2026 residency recap

I have so much to say but I’m still re-integrating into my world after back to back residencies.

I’ve filled rooms before but NEVER in this way. this all made it off of a purple living room post-it (I wrote a blog about it, link in my bio 🤪 🔗) into REAL LIFE. what a gift to explore in solitude and in community, you really showed up to The Golden Open with your manuscripts, new ideas, instruments, diving tools, all TYPES of artwork & made something new.

I am in awe of you & me.
I am in awe of how I continue to express myself, never in perfection but always with the intention to get free.
I am grateful for organizations that want to nurture artists like me.

Your poets (full bios):

Isabel Cruz (@eesahvel) is a Puerto Rican poet and the Youth Poetry Ambassador for the Paterson Poetry Festival. Among other awards, she won the 2024 Five College Prose & Poetry Prize and the 2024 Elizabeth Babcock Prize for Best Poem. Her work is published and forthcoming in The Poetry Society of New York, When Women Speak, Ghost City Review, and WAYE Small Press, among others. She was recently named a 2025 Brooklyn Poets Fellow and awarded a full scholarship from The Poetry Project for their Late Summer 2025 Learning.

JR Engalla (@selengvllv) is just another Filipino-American born and raised in Jersey City off West Side Avenue. He is still writing a better bio, but for now, he is a writer that’s dusting off his pen, examining his landscape, and hopefully, sharing work that resonates.

Gina Fayazi (@ginajournals) is an interdisciplinary artist and poet from Hudson County, New Jersey whose murals and poems explore nature, womanhood, and the quiet intensity of being alive. Her work invites audiences into spaces that feel both intimate and expansive. She is also a teaching artist and assistant organizer of The {Poetry} Unfold and Hudson County Poetry Festival.

Yetvart S. Majian (@emajian) is a first-generation Armenian-American poet, and great-grandchild to an orphan-survivor of the Armenian Genocide. He serves as Resident Poet at Washington Park, and facilitator of The {Poetry} Unfold. His poems appear in The Red Wheelbarrow, The Jersey Journal, By the WAYE Magazine, and his debut collection—Survival Witness—was selected as a 2025 Finalist by Wandering Aengus Press, Trio House Press, and Semi-Finalist by Black Lawrence Press.

Yet another memo from mgmt: here at BR IG we are still transitioning into dad mode IG. Please prepare yourself for pictures of BR in full on dad mode, bottle feeding, sending emails and doom scrolling all while wearing the most dad outfits possible. Plaid button ups with khaki shorts. Boat shoes and all of the types of clothing that would normally send Buttered Roll into a fit of self-loathing and nausea. All of those dad fits will be presented here in all their middle management type glory. But, until then, please enjoy these pics on film of friends at events and random places that BR has gotten to on his feet.
