I’ve been buzzing with absolute excitement to finally share this— yours truly will be playing Jomar in @circapintigtheatre’s production of “Debut: Coming of Age in Filipino America” arriving soon to @filamentplays, @bughousetheater, and @rizal.center this november/december! directed by the brilliant @rj.slay 🌹 a new play written by @cozywithnate, “29-year-old Filipino drag queen Jomar is at a crossroads, so he decides to throw himself a Filipino “debut,” a celebration traditionally held for Filipina girls when they turn eighteen into womanhood, as a way to give himself a new start into his thirties. And while his family is supportive, they struggle to keep up with their diva’s demands. But as the venue falls through, and the lechon is nowhere to be found, Jomar ultimately finds that the love given to him by his family is all he needs to love himself”. 🌹 I’ve been experiencing many emotions about having the privilege and opportunity to tell this story, which I’ll save for a later date. for now, just know that this play has become a precious thing to me. we’re in the midst of rehearsals still, but I can’t wait to share it with you all, especially with the ones I love most. 🌹 visit the link in my bio for more info and to get your tickets now! dm me with any questions! 💕🫧 📸: @ty_yamamoto1

Super proud to share my new play, WE WILL RIDE, a short one-act inspired by the 1899 Filipino Rough Riders. Ysidora Alcantara, Felix Alcantara, and Geronimo Inocensio, who were recruited from the Philippines in 1899 by Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show to tour America. After seeing the performances by Mari Joy, Renzo Vicente, and Rich Adrian Lazatin, under the direction of Noella Bonsol, I'm more determined to turn it into a full-length piece! I'm so grateful to Festival Director, Mikael Silan and Artistic Director, RJ Silva, and Stage Manager, Alishiana Uyao for producing this really inspiring and motivating Festival. Also truly fortunate to be part of this week's presentation with the plays by Annemarie Andaleon and Tim Pintado! Week 1's Line Up ends tomorrow, Sunday, Sept 12, so if you haven't caught it yet, see you tomorrow! And Week 2's shows of new plays runs between Sept 24 - 27 including an adapted excerpt of CRIERS FOR HIRE by @thegiovanniortega So catch that too!!! Oh, after tomorrow's show, you're invited to stick around where I'll share parts of my book, "WELGA, A Filipiino American Playwright's Journey," which will be available for sale. I brought a limited amount of copies to sell and SIGN!

Last night was incredible. I was emotional!! 😭 The best decision I made for having this production in Chicago was to work with @nothingwithoutacompany and the whole team including @hcat5 @annaroseiiepstein @kevisparrow. Another good decision I made was to trust them every step of the way and their process. Trust!! I so appreciate the thoughtfulness, the care, and the love throughout this whole process, incorporating and weaving the stories of the theater company, the site and the founder, and the guest artists altogether and connecting to mine and building and transmuting all these connections into an intimate community event. It was beautiful to watch, and it was magical to experience as an artist and as a human. And this was only the first night. My gratitude to the whole team!! Ash at @scissorandfork Thank you for providing the space. It was such a unique experience to perform this piece about hair and love in this funky bohemian and elegant hair salon-coffee shop that’s community-driven at the same time. Such an inclusive and welcoming space. I appreciate your generosity. I know for sure I will return soon!! @gingerenergy and @larryleopoldo Thank you for sharing your and your family’s love stories across borders. So honored to witness the love. @theursamiles Thank you for the reworking of mythology and folklore and connecting it to hair and love. Love it!! You’re an incredible performer. My friends @jacobmueller25 @stacie1217 @devinagonistes @julie.ming.liang Ramona Thank you for being there!! I haven’t seen a couple of you for years!! @soaringsoloartist Thank you for working with me on the script and directing this piece! I am blessed. Truly!! Look forward to tonight’s event at Visceral Adventure Lounge!! #nothingwithoutacompany #theatricalstorytelling
