🌊 ACT Swim: Building Skills, Confidence & Independence 🏊‍♂️

During our September 30 ACT Swim session with LBUSD ACT students at the CSULB Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center, swimmers continued developing foundational aquatic skills through purposeful practice and repetition.

This session focused on:

🛟 Aquatic safety & pool routines

💨 Breath control, bubbles & submersion

🏊 Body position & flutter kicking

➡️ Kickboard propulsion

💪 Front crawl: reach → pull → push → recover

🌊 Freestyle coordination & introductory side breathing

☁️ Back floating & introductory backstroke

A major focus of the session was practice and mastery before progression. Repetition gives swimmers the opportunity to strengthen technique, build water confidence, and develop greater independence before moving on to more advanced skills.

Every kick, breath, stroke, and successful attempt represents meaningful progress toward safer and more confident participation in aquatics. 💙

We’re excited to continue building on these skills throughout ACT Swim! 🌊

ACT SWIM is BACK and ready to make a splash! 🏊‍♂️🌊♿
We kicked off our first session with LBUSD ACT students at the CSULB Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center! 💦

Our swimmers got started with:
🏊 Aquatic safety & pool expectations
💨 Water comfort & breath control
🛟 Floating, kicking & propulsion
💪 Swimming skills & baseline assessment

Today was all about getting comfortable in the water, learning our routines, and giving each swimmer an opportunity to show us what they can do so we can build instruction around their individual strengths and needs.

Learning through movement, confidence, independence, and FUN, what a great way to kick off ACT Swim! 🙌✨

Had the opportunity to witness an incredible Unified Basketball Tournament, and it was nothing short of inspiring. 🏀💙

A huge thank you to my amazing mentor, Elsie Gutierrez, for inviting me to watch the Fremont HS students come together with athletes from other high schools. The teamwork, sportsmanship, and pure joy on the court were truly unforgettable.

Moments like these remind me how powerful inclusion and community can be. 🙌✨ #UnifiedSports #InclusionMatters #Grateful

The Project CAPE Scholars & CARE PE Scholars came together with Kettering Elementary (Long Beach USD) for an unforgettable Fit Fest 🤝 💪🎉

Through a variety of station-based activities such as yoga 🧘, soccer ⚽, basketball 🏀, and even axe throwing 🎯, students were given the opportunity to move, explore, and have fun in a supportive environment.

But this was more than just activity… This was intentional inclusion in action.

Our scholars worked collaboratively to modify each station, ensuring that every student had access, opportunity, and the ability to succeed, regardless of ability level. That’s what Adapted Physical Education is all about: meeting students where they are and empowering them to thrive.

✨ Movement is a right, not a privilege.
✨ Inclusion is not optional, it’s essential.
✨ Every student deserves a chance to feel successful.

We’re proud to continue building spaces where all students belong, move, and succeed.

First SHAPE America conference and presentation ✅

My really cool friends and I were given the opportunity to go to the 2026 SHAPE America Conference in Kansas City with Project CAPE/CARE and present our favorite thematic activities for Adapted PE. We learned so much and participated in so many activities that we can use in the future with our students!!

Thanks to @longbeachstateape for this really amazing opportunity. As my last conference being a member of Project CAPE prior to graduating in May🥹, this helped me go into my (very near) future career as an APE teacher!!
