Guess who’s BACK!

Charles Moriarty’s photographs of Amy Winehouse offer an intimate glimpse into the early days of her career, capturing her energy, humor, and unmistakable presence. Their friendship began in 2003, just before the release of Frank, when he was asked to take her portrait. What started as a simple shoot quickly turned into a close bond, with Moriarty documenting Amy in moments that felt spontaneous and unguarded.

His images show Amy laughing in the back of a cab, strolling through the streets of London, and effortlessly commanding attention with her charisma. More than just portraits, they are fragments of real moments shared between friends.

In 2017, Moriarty published Before Frank, a collection of these photographs, revealing a side of Amy many had never seen. The book was reissued in 2018 as Back to Amy, expanded with over 50 new photos and interviews with those who knew her best. But beyond the images, it’s the way Moriarty speaks about Amy that truly brings her to life. His stories transport you into their world—you can almost hear her laughter, feel the buzz of the city around them, and witness the spark that made her unforgettable.

More than her photographer, Moriarty was a friend who saw and captured Amy as she was in those early years. His work remains a testament to their friendship and the moments they shared.
His work is part of the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery in Lodnon. @nationalportraitgallery

His collection is available in Los Angeles only through Art Solutions.

Charles has become more than just one of our artists—his love, support, and unwavering passion mean the world to us, and we are proud to call him family.
Please give him a follow @charlesmoriarty
