Bucket list GLACIER HIKE in Glacier National Park! 🍁

This might be one of the most beautiful hikes in the entire United States…. 👀

📍 Grinnell Glacier Trail, Glacier National Park - Montana

This trail in Glacier National Park takes you to Grinnell Glacier, which is a tucked amongst the dramatic Rocky Mountains. Along the way you’ll see four different lakes, a waterfall, and, if you’re lucky, wildlife. Both times we’ve hiked this trail we’ve seen mountain goats and grizzly bears! 🏔️

✨ Grinnell Glacier Trail
📍 Glacier National Park, Montana
🥾 Distance: 10 miles
⛰️ Elevation gain: 2,041
🐻 A fed bear is a dead bear! Please leave no trace by packing everything out. And make sure to carry bear spray, especially if you visit in spring or fall!
🍁 I recommend doing this hike later in the day for better lighting and fewer crowds. Note, however, that bears can be more active at dawn and dusk.

In addition to wildlife sightings, this is a great trail for seeing geology in action! 🪨

Some geology highlights along the Grinnell Glacier trial ⬇️

❄️ Grinnell Glacier, the hike’s namesake attraction! It’s retreating rapidly, but still beautiful.
🦠 If you look carefully, at the lake you can see rocks with circular Stromatolite fossils. These are the fossils of cyanobacteria (blue green algae). If you scroll back in our feed, we have a whole reel on them!
🍉 See some creepy bright red water? It’s melted watermelon snow (aka “pink snow”), which is caused by cold-loving blue green algae the grows on snow.
