This year marks 25 years of Wasps artist studios at Hanson Street! We are looking forward to marking the occasion this October with a special open studios weekend and group exhibition, which will showcase the breadth of talent and creativity based there.

Included in the line-up will be painters, printmakers, ceramicists, designers, metalworkers, jewellers and more, with some being based at the building for decades.

Hanson Street is a studio facility in Dennistoun, Glasgow. A former cigarette factory, the building was transformed by Wasps in 2001 to create 77 affordable artist studios, which today serve around 150 artists and makers.

Please mark your calendar and visit us then:
Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October (11am–4pm)
Hanson Street studios, 77 Hanson Street, G31 2HF

"We have to invest in the next generation."

That's TV spoke to Steven Graham (that's me, hee hee) an artist based at Glasgow Glass Studio, about why investment is needed to protect glasswork for the future, after the group received funding from Creative Glasgow's 'Pitch Pot' event.

A massive thank you to @steveninglass for a wonderful weekend learning glass painting with stains and enamels!

We covered so much- different types of paint, firing temperatures, colour theory, mark making techniques, brushes and even how to improvise your own tools.

Steven was ridiculously generous with his time, extensive knowledge and skills and it was an incredible amount of fun. It was also great spending time @glasgowglassstudio and meeting some of the studio members- what a great community you have there!

A big thanks also to @fifecontemp and @creativescots for the VACMA early career bursary that made this possible- there aren’t many places left in Scotland where you can study stained glass painting and the craft and the skills need to be kept alive!

Sarah Lack-McDevitt is an artist working with glass - shaping light, movement, and transparency into quietly striking forms. She uses many different techniques including leaded, traditionally painted, copper foil and fused.

Last of the wee Dear Green Place robins. Thanks to Steven and Brian at Glasgow Glass Studio for all your help as always. Loads of new things learned with this autumnal Glasgow birdie.

Some (belated!) photos from the Affordable Art Fair Graduate Exhibition 2025. @affordableartfairuk

I was really nervous prior to the art fair, so thank you to @josarthistory for being so supportive all the way through, and making it such a positive experience!

It was lovely to meet the other graduates from so many different art schools, and with such interesting and varied practices.

A huge thank you also to @glasgowglassstudio and especially to Geraldine without whom my work for the fair could not have been made. Stained glass is an endangered medium, and I've been very grateful to have had their support in continuing to work and experiment with stained glass.

David Bowie: He Played Guitar

My Bowie inspired stained glass guitar is home, safe and sound. 5 years pondering, 18 months designing, 4 weeks making and a lifetime of enjoying.

A combination of stained glass cutting, acid etching, vitreous high fire painting, enamelling and silver staining, digital mozaicing, screen printing, silver foil water gilding, multi-layer plating, lead working, converting a dreadnought acoustic guitar into a fully controllable LED lightbox, and not to forget the wonderful french polishing by my wonderful 'little big sis' Caroline @casmeek and lots of encouragement from fellow artists @glasgowglassstudio

A good day with the open studios today and back in again tomorrow.

It is a chance to show off this pair of 100+ year old privacy screens. They were falling apart when they came in and had several glass breaks, cracked lead joints and very little cement left. After some serious attention and some tlc, I reckon they'll last another 100+ years.

Why not pop in for a visit if you're in Glasgow tomorrow.
