Discussing the ongoing project The Ignorant Art School, characterised by “its critical rigour, revolutionary attitude and, above all, its emancipatory poise”.
Foregrounding knowledge as a shared potential, activated through networks/smuggling of embodied critical enquiry, we heard how the event (Bourdieu) of knowledge is a rehearsal of learning. 🎤🎥What a way to kickstart this semester’s @sofa_fridays with our very own @margaretsalmon the Programme Lead @glasgowmfa and former lecturer @gsa.facs and @gsa.fine.art.photo Margaret’s experimental performance lecture began with us stretching and connecting with our own physicalities. Margaret then generously shared her “intersectional feminist model of research/practice”, one that she describes as “articulating and amplifying ‘the everyday’ whilst also provoking dynamic thought around hierarchies of power and dominant ideologies that determine basic human experiences, rights and liberties.” 👏🏻🎬👏🏻🎬👏🏻🎬

🤯 It’s been almost two years since my MFA degree show at the Glasgow School of Art @glasgowmfa, just before I joined the @tracey_emin_artist_residency in Margate. I've been reflecting and dreaming about these paintings.. It’s such a sweet feeling to look back.. There’s some exciting stuff coming up soon, so keep an eye out ♥️

”Tsia̍h-pá-buē? Lâi-tsē !“ (Eaten yet? Come, take a seat!🪑)

This is the most common, heartwarming greeting you’ll hear in Taiwan. It’s an open invitation to connect, and the very core spirit that flows through ”Tiânn“ (埕).

In Taiwan, ’Tiânn‘ is more than just an open physical space. It serves as a metaphorical living room for all, paved with red bricks, concrete, and collective memories.This time, through ”Tiânn“, we allow contemporary art to hear the echoes of daily life. Right here inside the gallery, boundaries blur. White walls are infused with the warmth and stories of the commons. No sterile silence. No red lines of defense.

Only art, polyphonic and borderless, thriving freely under one shared roof.

✏️Special Note:
1. The background music for this video features traditional Beiguan music performed by Changhua Li-Chun Garden, a designated preserver of Taiwan’s intangible cultural heritage.Nao Tai (literally ”making a racket on stage“) is a historic piece traditionally played in the temple ”Tiânn“ to gather the community and amplify the festive energy before an opera or ritual begins. The roaring suona (double-reed horn) and thunderous percussion embody the most authentic ”daily noise“ of Taiwan’s Tiânn, officially raising the curtain on this contemporary art project.

2. The non-English terms used in this text (such as Tsia̍h-pá-buē and Tiânn) are in Taiwanese Hokkien (Tâi-gî).

#Annadavis came to study in #Glasgow all the way from #kentucky. We are all so very grateful to @patricia_fleming_glasgow for mentoring and supporting Anna with her final curatorial project, #Residual, which continues today and tomorrow. And of course, we are proud to see how Anna’s collaboration with @glasgowmfa candidate #AdrianaBergen came to life with team @glacuratorial. Info on @glacuratorial

It was great to meet Paul from @PalFoxPhoto last month when he visited me at @WaspsStudios Hanson Street to take these fab pictures 📷

My studio has always been more like an office than anything else, going back to my very first one in Glasgow in the Barnes Building at @GlasgowSchoolArt from 2008-2010. I bought ‘The Boss’ mug back then as I was interested in the aesthetics of the corporate world and exploring what it meant to be self-employed worker, making pieces like ‘The History of Financial Crises’ (2009), ‘Desk Chair Parade’ (2009) and ‘Desk Chair Disco’ (2011), and the ‘Work-a-thon for the Self-Employed’ (2011).

I’m not making much art these days as nearly all my time goes into local community activism, particularly with the @GlasgowCommunity Energy co-operative which I helped get up-and-running during the pandemic, and with the @GetGlasgowMoving public transport campaign which I co-founded in 2016.

Over the summer I’m preparing for Get Glasgow Moving’s 10th Anniversary Exhibition at the @NewGlasgowSociety, which opens on Thurs 17 September as part of @GlasgowDODF 2026.

I love using my creative skills to further causes that I’m passionate about. Over the years I've designed many campaign materials – including this ‘Trans-Clyde Links You Clyde-Wide’ T-Shirt, which is based on the original marketing for the Trans-Clyde integrated public transport network launched by the Greater Glasgow Passenger Transport Executive in 1979, the year that I was born.

The integrated public transport networks which most big city-regions had were wilfully destroyed in 1986 with the deregulation (and later privatisation) of buses. This was one of the most destructive of all Margaret Thatcher’s policies, and it is shameful that the @ScotGov has continued to maintain it for more than quarter of a century of devolution. With the @BetterBusesSPT campaign, we are doing all we can to get our region’s buses back in public control.
