We did it! Last skip day working on the pit!

The final space in the pit that needed sorting was fully cleared out yesterday thanks to our lovely team of volunteers 🧡

What a colossal effort it’s been, 9 skips over 3 years - we can’t believe we’ve gotten to this point whoop whoop

Just some polishing up to do now! and many future plans :)

Delighted to be the recipient of @weareunltd #MicroCapitalGrant with @westyorkshire_ca and have an absolute dream team working on it @thatmattrogers and the @assembly_leeds beauties @archiebrooksart and @glenthemaker. We are making a Rest Space for folks with energy limiting illness including #Longcovid #mecfs.
It's a space close to my heart as I need rest space in order to work and attend events. As a disabled artist it means a lot to have artists I trust building with care so that more people can feel welcomed and included. With so many cuts to access for disabled people, this feels like a little bit of hope #access

This week we are delighted to welcome the new cohort of Gilbert Bayes Award winners who will join the Society in 2026! Meet Glen Ogden GBA @glenthemaker

Glen Ogden’s work explores the cyclical and labor-intensive essence of human effort, using sculpture and performance to critique societal constructs surrounding work, value, and identity. Drawing from personal experiences, his practice reframes mundane labor as symbolic and monumental, highlighting its transformative yet often futile rhythms.

Through meticulously crafted works - ranging from durational performances to large-scale mechanical sculptures - he juxtaposes endurance and humor to interrogate hyperconsumption, power dynamics, and the commodification of time. He employs tools, rhythmic actions, and industrial aesthetics to blur the boundaries between creation and deconstruction, highlighting the overlooked physical and psychological costs of labor in a work-oriented society.

Whether you’re recovering from the plague or a plain ole hangover, thanks to all who came down to our 11th birthday party on Saturday! Here are some cute polaroids from the night x

The raffle raised a great amount of money for the pit staircase and we want to thank everyone who donated prizes, bought tickets and had a big medieval boogie 🎁💝

Also big thanks to everyone who performed, all the staff and volunteers who put plenty of time into planning, crafting decorations and working on the night, it wouldn’t have been such a smash without you all 🥳

Rest up now, because in just 9 days, our group show opens here on the 16th of October, alongside the Accelerator show ‘Catching Forty Winks’ - more to come on both of those! see you all again soon and keep tagging us in photos from the weekend :)
