Rainbow Mystery LED Lights Up Downtown Glenview Signs Village Silent as Monument Signs Glow in Color-Changing Display July 9, 2026 Downtown Glenview got an unexpected splash of color Thursday evening as the village’s newly installed monument signs began cycling through a rotating rainbow of LED lights—catching residents and passersby off guard and leaving village officials silent on the matter. The first sign, located on Harlem Road, flickered to life at approximately 6 p.m., its lettering quickly transitioning through a vivid spectrum of colors. The signs, installed roughly two months ago as part of a $395,200 branding and wayfinding project, had been presumed by many to be simple, unlit fixtures. That assumption was reinforced by an April 2 article in the Glenview Journal Topics, which reported that “the village chose unlit, non-LED dark wood signs with white lettering and stone bases for this project.” The article remains online and searchable. The village’s website provides no information about the lighting activation or even acknowledgment that lights existed behind the lettering. Similarly, no announcements have been made on the village’s social media channels regarding the colorful display. The broader project, which was approved by the Village Board in October 2024, includes four white-on-black monument signs, 15 to 20 directional signs guiding visitors to local amenities, and historical updates to iconic local locations. The contract was awarded to Forge Signworks, LLC of Farmingdale, New Jersey, for an amount not to exceed $395,200 . Efforts to reach village officials for comment Thursday evening were unsuccessful. The timing of the lighting activation—and whether it signals a permanent change or a temporary test—remains unclear. The rainbow display comes just one day before scheduled road closures on Glenview Road between Harlem Avenue and Pine Street for paving work . Read the full article at no charge on Saturday at 7pm. We will have reactions from residence walking by. #glenview #led #lights #rainbow

Headline: Glenview Library Could See Lower Book Costs as Illinois Lawmakers Target E-Book Pricing - Huge for 2027 Property Taxes. GLENVIEW, IL – The Glenview Public Library may soon pay less for digital books, thanks to a new state bill aimed at reining in what advocates call unfair pricing by major publishers. Currently, the Glenview library pays five to ten times more for an e-book than the average consumer, according to library officials. These costs—ranging from $50 to $80 or more per digital copy, compared to roughly $15 for a consumer—dramatically increase operating expenses, which in turn contribute to higher property taxes in the area. Last night we celebrated the grand opening of our new Youth Services Play Space with a special event co-hosted by the Glenview Public Library Foundation! It was a joy to honor the incredible donors and supporters who made this space possible. Thanks to their generosity, the Foundation reached its $200,000 fundraising goal—bringing to life a vibrant, welcoming place where reading and play come together for Glenview families. We are deeply grateful for our amazing community and the support that continues to make projects like this possible. Thank you for helping to make the Library so special! I took a free class at the Glenview Public library innovation center. Oh my gosh. They have about 12 things you can do there that are just amazing. You can either sign up for a class or make an appointment to come in and do the things one on one with an instructor. Appointments are available every day. They also give you all of the supplies you need so the class and everything is free. You can make a rubber stamp, put a logo on a hat, put any type of art or photography on a T-shirt. You can make one of these LED lights, or make a 3-D printed image or a bunch of other stuff. It is truly amazing and wonderful all the things they have. Oh, I forgot you can also do an etching on a glass. And you don’t need any art talent whatsoever because machines do everything you just pick out an image make the image what you want and then programmed the computer to have the machine make it. I’m one of the first people to take classes or go there for appointments using photographs. Most other people draw something or pick out some type of logo. @glenpublib @friendsofdowntownglenview @glenview_library_foundation foundation #art #Photographer #glenview #everythingglenview

Took a class at the @glenpublib innovation center. There is a list of too many numerous things that you can do there. It’s just amazing. Make LED lights come on, use a computer to embroidery on cloth, 3-D printing, make keychains or logo hats, or logo T-shirts. And about eight other things. You can sign up for a 90 minute class, but they feel fast or all day long. You can make a one hour appointment and come in and get one on one training for free. They supply everything you need. Absolutely remarkable library. #art #Parakeet #photographer #skater #led #nightlight #craft #crafts #naturephotography #nuturelovers #pets

I attended a free class at the Glenview Public Library, where I learned to etch an image into a plexiglass to make a multi color LED light display using a laser etching machine. The experience was thoroughly enjoyable. All necessary materials were provided, including plexiglass, a light stand, USB cord, and remote control. I utilized one of my photographs of a ruby-throated hummingbird from my backyard. Alternatively, a drawing can be used. I am eager to return and create additional displays. Following the class, participants can schedule an appointment to create more displays. #artist #art #hummingbird #glenviewillinois #photographer #photography
