Thursday night, we hosted our very first community event together with @global.standards, and we’re still smiling about it. 💖

15 lovely people joined us at our office for a knitting workshop with @oh.liske. We learned how to knit our own striped scarves, enjoyed good conversations, snacks and drinks (thank you, @thepicklecompany! 🥒) and discovered that knitting takes a little more time than expected. Let’s see who actually finishes their scarf! 👀🧶

We also had the pleasure of diving deeper into GOTS and JAN N JUNE with @antoniavalentinahh. We talked about the challenges of the fashion industry, what happens behind the scenes of clothing production, the role of GOTS certification and shared personal tips for navigating clothing choices.

Plus, everyone went home with goodie bags featuring treats from @nucao_de, @kaell_de and @paperandtea. Because one good thing deserves another. ✨

A huge thank you to everyone who made our first community event so special!

Will this be our only one? With this much fun, we’d say the odds are pretty low.

När man vill leva mer miljömedvetet är symbolerna på förpackningarna våra bästa verktyg. De hjälper oss att göra betydligt bättre val i farten utan att vi behöver läsa krångliga ingredienslistor.

Men, det är också viktigt att veta att märkningar innebär kompromisser. De väger alltid miljönytta mot funktion.

Visste du till exempel att:
• KRAV tillåter låga nivåer av nitrit i chark för livsmedelssäkerhet?
• Svanen tummar på vissa kemikaliekrav för att produkten faktiskt ska fungera i vardagen?

Märkningarna är en fantastisk grundnivå för bättre djuromsorg och giftfri miljö – men vill du vara helt säker på att slippa vissa ämnen får du fortfarande läsa ingredienslistan.

Global Standards is one of the biggest non-profit organisations worldwide working to ensure that textiles and producers meet sustainability and social responsibility criteria.

They develop and operate the labels GOTS and GRTS. The standards set published material, processing, environmental, social, traceability and labelling requirements for activities within the certified scope.

My polar bear sweatshirts are always on demand as we enter the Christmas lead up.
The design is a slight nod to the colder months as polar bears live in cold habitats but it’s handy for all year round wear. ♻️

The sweatshirt is made from @global.standards GOTS organic cotton and embroidered locally in Enfield.
I love to work with local businesses as much as possible as they are the backbone to our local economy and working locally reduces our carbon footprint.

Operating on made to order with my embroidered clothing is more sustainable as I only make to what customers want. No wasteful stock.

“Clean,” “non-toxic,” “natural”: none of these are regulated terms. Certifications are the closest thing we have to proof.

 •MADE SAFE & EWG Verified: personal care and household
 •EPA Safer Choice: cleaners (helpful, but not required. Plenty of great ones skip it)
 •GREENGUARD Gold: air emissions from furniture and mattresses 🛏️ 
•NSF/ANSI 53 & 58: water filters 💧

September was a busy month for raising awareness around the fashion industry. It was Sustainable Fashion Week and Organic September.

I was away for most of the month, so I didn’t get the chance to be as involved on socials as I usually am, but I still managed to squeeze it into conversations and work offline.

So, kicking off October with a small reminder of where our clothes come from - and to keep the conversation going.

*Don’t be fooled by viscose. It might come from wood originally, but it is produced using an intensive chemical process to turn the cellulose into fibres.
