Somewhere between picking up a paddle and flying to Hong Kong for the Global Pickleball Summit, this got quite serious. 😂

Most people know me through law and SHiNE Pharmacy. These days, pickleball takes up a pretty big part of my life too. Playing led to coaching, working with brands, organising clinics and events… and now a new company I started, RiSE Performance Sdn Bhd.

Coming to Hong Kong for this felt like a big step for me.

Here I was, listening to and meeting federation leaders from around the world, coaches, business owners and some of the people making big decisions about where this sport goes next.

There was plenty to get into: coaching and youth development, player ratings, running facilities, and how professional pickleball fits into the bigger picture. Even the Olympic question: is that really the goal? Hearing from federation presidents Erika von Heiland Strader and Kim Wagner, alongside industry leaders like PPA CEO Connor Pardoe, gave me a lot to think about.

And I kept coming back to the same question: what can we take from all this and do better back home?

Especially in Sarawak and Sabah, where I’ve been spending more time working with players, coaches and clubs. There’s so much we can do, and attending this summit made me want to get on with it.

Of course, meeting Anna Bright and Ben Johns was a bit of a highlight too. Had to get the photos and autographs lah. And lovely to catch up with my dear friend Kelvin!

This is quite a departure from my years in law and pharmacy. I’m learning as I go, meeting people I wouldn’t otherwise have met, and finding myself caring more and more about what happens to this sport in Malaysia.

Coming away from the summit with plenty of ideas and a few more people to call on.

Definitely in too deep now. And enjoying every bit of it.

I’m truly humbled and honored to have the opportunity to sit alongside some of the most influential leaders in Asia’s pickleball industry to discuss the future of our sport, its journey toward the Olympics, and the importance of creating a clear pathway for the next generation of young athletes.

A huge thank you to @connor.cuong @rpo.apac and @globalpickleballsummit for giving me a platform to share my voice and perspective.

My passion and mission have always been bigger than just competing. I want to inspire, lead by example, and make a positive impact on the next generation through this incredible sport.

Pickleball has changed my life, opened doors I never imagined, and given me the opportunity to travel the world, meet amazing people, and pursue my dreams.

Now, I hope to help create those same opportunities for the young athletes who come after me.

The future of pickleball is bright, and I’m grateful to be part of its journey. 🌎🏓

@benjohns_pb remembers the people who have helped him in his pickleball journey, most of all his family, his parents. And when asked what had playing with Colin has allowed him to do, he shares “take a lot more court”, the game is an ebb and flow, in a 20 ft court, work to cover more than just 10 feet. @globalpickleballsummit
