It was such an honor to curate Seeing the Unseen: The Art of Peter Brandes in the Ahmanson Collection. He sadly left us recently and left behind an incredible artistic legacy. A few of the best travel buddies. Fellow tired mamás that I am thankful to call friends. We wish the Mexican sun had warmed our souls a little more; instead we settled for the lavender lattes and mezcal to do the job. It was a luxury to just be, and walk and shop and eat and miss our babies at home.

3ish days spent together is a divine gift. We are exactly where we’re supposed to be. I do not take it for granted that I have friends scattered across the country that will set everything aside to take communion together just like we did in the Westmont gymnasium 20 years ago. Filled with wonder + caffeine.

Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had anywhere. Cost per person 440 dirhams (about $4.5 us). They serve it in a brass kettle with whipped cream and fresh vanilla spice on the side. You can choose from the menu of 200 coffees or tell the waiter what flavors you like and he’ll choose for you.
