You can’t hide so you’d better run.

I’m still in disbelief with how lucky we got with this location. Jodi called the @kelownaboxingclub and the owner was so down with having us shoot there, and was super chill about it too. We had all the time we needed to get our shots, plus some time to grab some earlier posted stills as well. @coldfvme’s Fight Like a Man felt way more complete this way rather than our backup plan. Jodi even pushed through super intense endo pain to give it all she had for the camera! She’s such a champ, my goodness. Give her some love and go watch the music video on YouTube!

Honoured to have been part of Once in a Blue Moon, hosted by the visionary @rhondahymers

An incredible evening that brought together community changemakers in support of the @cyackelowna

These are the moments that remind us why this work matters, and when generosity and purpose align for the greater good. We are beyond grateful to have been a part of something so meaningful! 💙

Behind the scenes of our most epic music video… 🥊

Love this crew so much!! Look at those bad ass babes @gmbecker + @asumm__s + @pinkshoe24 -and of course bad boy Nige who took those hits like a CHAMP❤️‍🔥

@itsathingimagery came on tour with us to film this song at all of the shows, then drove out to the Okanagan to film the boxing scenes, then headed to Vancouver island for the epic scenery shots, THEN edited the whole thing in DAYS -absolutely diabolical. What a guy. If you need someone devoted to the art, he’s your man. Thanks so much buddy, we ❤️ ya.

The official video for “Fight Like a Man” is out - and this one holds some weight…

I’ve lost track of the amount of times I’ve been followed, chased and harassed by creeps. The amount of times I’ve had to check the reflection of a store window for his distance. The amount of times I’ve had to plan my escape route and put my keys between my knuckles. I’m sick of the sexism and this power some think they hold over us. We are not yours to control, manipulate and torture. Fight like a man if you wanna come at me.

This song is for everyone and anyone who has ever felt unsafe, threatened, abused, controlled, harassed or underestimated. We have your back. Thank you to the incredible team who brought this video to life including @itsathingimagery who is a one man machine 💪🏻 our bandmates who bring the attitude on stage @breanna.montague & @luke.thelifeform 🎸Dave Habib @kelownaboxingclub 🥊 thank you to my bad a$$ crew Amanda, Ginny & Harmony for having my back 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 thank you to my partner for playing the villain and for allowing me to kick his butt - guys, he didn’t even complain once, get this man a trophy 🏆 and of course, thank you to @drkevvy for making this song with us and @ryan.worsley.music for mixing. We are so grateful for this group of people and all of you. ❤️‍🔥 Please share this with anyone you think needs a song like this in their life - “come on boys”!!!

GRATITUDE

On May 30th I performed at an event called 'Once in a Blue Moon'. I've performed at hundreds of events, but I wanted to share what made this one different.

There's an organization in Kelowna that you might not know about. The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. In short, it's a safe, supportive place where children, youth and families who have been impacted by abuse can go to get help. They have the most incredible counsellors there that help guide these individuals through deeply difficult moments with grace and empathy from start to finish.

The heart of the evening was an opportunity to donate to the CYAC, but the intention behind it was Gratitude. My now friend, Rhonda Hymers, put on this event to bring awareness and funds to the CYAC and uses her relationships and connections to bring people together that can create real impact.

In addition to creating the event, she and I spoke months before and she asked me to create this spoken word on the theme of the night. Gratitude. I asked her what Gratitude looked like to her, and what you'll hear came out of that conversation.

Gratitude is a character trait. It's a mental and moral quality of an individual. It drives our responses... that little tiny space between what happens and what we do next. And while we almost certainly know gratitude as a feeling, we don't always know it as an action, and yet without an action, gratitude is incomplete.

I was honored to be trusted with creating such an important piece for an evening like this, and so grateful to have been given the chance to share it, live, with all of Rhonda's guests.

Ginny, the Executive Director, shared a heart-wrenching but beautiful story about the loss some children go through after being brave enough to share their truth — moving out of a house, a school, leaving friends, their toys and even their bed behind. With no previous knowledge of what she was going to be sharing, I was in awe of the connection to my Spoken Word, but not surprised. We're all connected, in beautiful ways. And I'm so grateful for every single one.

If you're moved to contribute to the CYAC, you can do so online:)
