What an absolutely incredible evening! I’m still buzzing from the energy and excitement at the grand opening of the John D. Wiley Gallery tonight in the beautiful Discovery Building on the UW-Madison campus.
It is such a profound honor to have my piece, “Portal of Discovery,” included in the inaugural exhibition. To see my work hanging alongside pieces by so many exceptionally talented artists, including the esteemed John D. Wiley himself, is a dream.
The absolute highlight of the night was having the opportunity to meet Chancellor Wiley and his wonderful wife. To be able to share this moment and discuss art with the gallery’s namesake was a true privilege I will not soon forget.
My deepest gratitude to the curators and the entire team at the Discovery Building for this invitation. “Portal of Discovery” will be on display through February 2026, here in a hub of curiosity and innovation. If you are on campus or in the Madison area, I warmly invite you to come visit the gallery and experience this stunning collection of work.

Revisit last week's first @uwmadison Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition of the 2025 season by @tamaramclean.art: Resilient Threads

The interactive textile soft sculpture installation with a corresponding art film which creates an immersive experience, subtly highlighting the quiet resilience required to face each new day.

Twelve-foot panels of muslin and tulle suspended from the ceiling grid formed a maze-like environment for visitors to explore. These translucent, layered fabrics shifted gently with movement, evoking the transient and fleeting nature of the moments they represent.

The panels were printed with large-scale images that capture unmade beds and disheveled sheets, inviting reflection on the hidden labor embedded in daily life. Implied questions such as “Did you make your bed this morning? Did you make the bed for someone else?” challenged the viewer to consider their relationship with domestic labor.

The accompanying film played on an intentionally small screen, underscoring domestic work’s often unseen and undervalued nature. Created in collaboration with @gmclean11_, a Film Studies student in @uwmadisonls’s @uwcommarts at UW-Madison, the art film referenced the 1975 transcendental classic film Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, as the central character in Resilient Threads completes a series of domestic labor tasks, daydreaming about freedom while trapped as a domesticated inhabitant. The repetitive monotony of the tasks emphasizes the never-ending slog of domestic labor.
