The Giants savior has arrived 🙏

J.J. McCarthy has officially earned the starting job for the Giants, taking over for Week 7 against Houston after a genuinely encouraging relief appearance that nearly completed a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback against New Orleans. Just a month removed from arriving via trade following Jaxson Dart’s season-ending injury, McCarthy’s growth has moved fast enough that head coach John Harbaugh decided to hand him the full-time reins over veteran Jameis Winston, who returns to the backup role after starting the first several weeks of the season.

What makes this moment so compelling is the fresh start it represents after a difficult stretch in Minnesota that was defined by injuries and inconsistency. McCarthy is getting a real opportunity to prove the talent that made him a first-round pick can translate at this level, and with New York currently sitting atop the NFC East, taking the reins of a first-place team gives him a genuine platform to show what he’s capable of as QB1 for the first time in his career.

Heading into Week 7 of the season, the NFC East is by far one of, if not the worst division in the league. Mixed with injuries all over and Dallas being terrible, it’s anyone’s division for the taking at this point.
