POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’m all emotional after seeing the footage of Sublime (with Jakob) So I just wanted to share an amazing experience I had in 2013…..
I was living on Prison St. at Chuck’s house. I worked at West Maui Parasail. 🪂 I had friend requested Bud Gaugh (Drummer from Sublime) on Facebook. I was giddy when he accepted my request- and within a few days he posted that he was about to land here on Maui. (WHAT?!??) I sent him a private message asking if he would possibly meet me for a drink, expressed I was a huge fan it would be so special to me. And for some wild reason he replied! I met him and his traveling friends at Betty’s 505 Front St. we had a great conversation and the next thing I knew they were inviting me to come see his side project band, called Phil and the Blanx. Thanks to a mild hurricane. My job at parasailing was at a halt. I got to spend the week being somewhat of a tour guide. I took the guys to Sly Mongoose, and Cool Cat Cafe- making sure they had a good local experience. They played at Diamonds in Kihei and Charlies in Paia. We also had dinner at Son’s at the Hyatt. That was probably my favorite day because Bud told me stories about Sublime back in the day.
Needless to say it, was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I was just hoping for a beer and a photograph, and it turned into a week of sharing the vacation with the drummer from my favorite band of all time.
Bud is an incredibly kind person he left me with a signed drumstick before he left. And a permanent impression on my heart. Whatever possessed him to share his vacation with me, I will never know, but I am grateful beyond words. One of my favorite memories in Lāhāinā 💜🥹@budgaugh
