Unilateral Movements

Unilateral movements are exercises that involve training one limb at a time rather than both simultaneously. Examples include Single Arm Tricep Exrensions , Single Leg Curls Single Arm Landmine Press, and Single Leg Step Ups. These movements are crucial for athletic performance, injury prevention, and overall strength development.

Why You Need Them

1️⃣ Corrects Imbalances
• Your dominant side can take over in bilateral lifts. Training one limb at a time evens out weaknesses.

2️⃣ Improves Stability & Coordination
• Forces stabilizer muscles to work harder, improving balance and control.

3️⃣ Boosts Athletic Performance
• Sports rely on single-leg/single-arm power. Training unilaterally enhances movement efficiency.

4️⃣ Reduces Injury Risk
• Strengthens weak areas, preventing compensations that lead to injuries.

5️⃣ Increases Core Activation
• Your core works overtime to stabilize, leading to better overall strength.

6️⃣ Enhances Mobility
• Helps fix movement restrictions and improves range of motion.

Even if your goal is to lift heavy in bilateral movements (like squats, deadlifts, or bench press), incorporating unilateral exercises ensures both sides contribute equally. They help build a stronger foundation, prevent injuries, and improve movement mechanics, which ultimately leads to better performance in all aspects of training and daily life.

For your specific goals—building strength, regaining power after your Achilles injury, and staying athletic—unilateral movements should be a staple in your programming. They’ll help rebuild strength evenly, improve single-leg explosiveness, and reinforce proper movement patterns.
