Hiba Gasim presented on the ongoing digitization efforts of the Modelling Team in the Modern Sudan Collective emphasizing the diverse motivations behind these efforts, including preservation for future generations, safeguarding collective memory, and highlighting the cultural significance of iconic structures. Due to ongoing conflict and restricted site access, the team employs alternative methods such as utilizing internet-sourced images, photogrammetry, and digital modeling techniques like HBIM to reconstruct heritage sites virtually.

It’s your last chance to explore work by Architensions (@architensions) and French 2D (@french2d) at the 6th @chicagoarchitecturebiennial—“SHIFT: Architecture in Times of Radical Change,” curated by Artistic Director Florencia Rodriguez (@flor_ness).

A reimagining of New York City through the past, present, and future experiences of disabled individuals, “Fragments of Disability Fictions” by Ignacio Galán (@nachoglezgalan), David Gissen (@davidgissen), and Architensions (@orsiniale and @nickroseboro) invites viewers to rethink who cities are built for. Through a series of architectural models, storytelling, and interactive artifacts, the installation explores how disabled communities shape and adapt the city with resilience, creativity, and care.

“Bay State Cohousing” by Boston-based studio French 2D is a collectively initiated shared housing scheme shaped by the desires and needs of its residents. The resulting complex resembles an expanded single-family home with a bright, cheerful color palette, articulating core beliefs around communal living and self-governance. French 2D is also scheduled to participate in this Friday’s SHIFT Housing Summit, a free public program that reflects on housing as one of the Biennial’s central fields of inquiry (registration required).

📍Both projects are on view at the @chicagoculturalcenter through February 28, 2026. Visit chicagoarchitecturebiennial.org for more details.

🚀 NO NIIN Issue 29 is LIVE 🚀

This issue examines the entangled struggles against the many forms of ongoing colonial violence in settler states and the states and institutions in complicity with them. It features conversations on Indigenous climate justice in Brazil and Palestine, student-led movements disrupting university complicity in genocide, and the strategic weaponisation of ruins in state politics. Essays examine the queering of Palestinian resistance as a colonial tool, the diasporic negotiation of memory and identity in contemporary art, and the intellectual legacies of Coptic thinkers imagining futures beyond imposed binaries. Also included are reviews of Uzair Amjad’s exhibition, The Terrain Between, and Pradeepan Raveendran’s Soundless Dance.

Edited by @ellerahmati and @vidheshwari.

What you will read in this issue:

✨Zág Trees, Forest Spirits, and the Settlers: A Conversation with Xokleng Kin

Sanabel Abdel Rahman reflects on a conversation with Isabel and Carl Gakran about the endangered Zág tree (Araucaria), their Instituto Zág project, and the interconnected struggles for Indigenous climate justice in Brazil and Palestine.

✨Disrupting Complicity: Student Organising for Palestine in Finland

Students for Palestine Finland has spearheaded a wave of student activism across Helsinki universities, uniting diverse communities in protests and boycotts to challenge university complicity in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

✨Queering Hamas: A Colonial Weapon

Musa Shadeedi analyzes the use of feminizing and queering Palestinian resistance in Gaza as a justification for genocide and occupation, contextualizing this tactic within historical colonial and anti-Islamic frameworks to reveal its inherent contradictions.

✨On Bulldozer Politics: An Interview with Léopold Lambert & Shivangi Mariam Raj

In an interview with Omer Gorashi, Léopold Lambert and Shivangi Mariam Raj of the Funambulist discuss “Bulldozer Politics,” revealing how ruins are strategically weaponized for state power through demolition and displacement, while simultaneously becoming sites of resistance and remembrance.
