It’s the people, the emotion, the team feeling. And the pub after, obviously.

Some snaps for the wonderful @goaldiggers_fc last week.

@goaldiggers_fc is a non-profit club set up in Heckney, London to make football more available and accessible to all women and non-binary people regardless of previous experience or ability.

Goal Diggers was founded by Fleur Cousens in 2015. Built on the core ethos of "availability not ability,".

Last year, the FA introduced a ban on transgender women from playing women’s football at any level. So Goal Diggers FC, a queer football team based in East London, just held a tournament in celebration of trans pride weekend. Football is for everyone.

Goal Diggers FC, a queer football team based in East London, held a tournament in celebration of trans pride weekend.

As part of their ‘Utopia Weekender’, which also involved their club night arm, Murder on Zidane’s Floor, a small-sided competition closed things off in style, championing trans joy and visibility at a crucial point for their place in the beautiful game.

Last year, the FA introduced a ban on transgender women from playing women’s football at any level. It followed the UK Supreme Court’s ruling that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex, a decision that further marginalised the community across society.

The tournament welcomed people from the Goal Diggers family and beyond, collaborating with the newly introduced ‘Queer FA’ to create an inclusive space where teams don’t have to compromise on community to play the game they love, with a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination.

Salute to Goal Diggers for fighting back against the FA and ensuring football is a place where everyone feels welcomed.
