VirCru onboard in 🇧🇪 with @goandsail!

Thibaut has been trying out his high water sensor over the last few months, monitoring any water ingress in his bilge from his mobile phone. Swipe left for a quick tour and head to his page for updates.

– What are the most useful features of your VirCru system Thibaut?

I initially thought that having a view on my batteries would be the most reassuring feature. It is useful but is by no means the only feature I use.

Each sensor has a temperature reading so I can easily regulate different parts of my vessel like the main heater, the fridge or the bilge at the bottom of the boat.

Finally, I often like to see if my boat is still in its place… I know I would be notified, but checking to see she is safe keeps my peace of mind.

– How has VirCru changed the way you look after your boat?

I almost ‘feel' my boat better - I know what's going on and view information whenever I need on her state. You know when you are put on electrodes in the hospital? It’s similar!

– Would you recommend VirCru to other boaters?

I do of course recommend VirCru to other boaters - either sailboat or powerboat owners. Companies owning several or working on a charter basis would also know immediately if something happens onboard.

Here's part two of our recent interview with Thibaut from @goandsail!

Follow @myvircru and @goandsail for videos of our boat monitoring product in action.

- What was your first impression of VirCru when it arrived?

"A wow effect. Firstly, the web site, shipping and communication felt very professional. I am increasingly conscious of how products are packaged – both from a design and eco perspective – and was impressed that the plastic bags were compostable and the shipping box was taped with earth friend tape. As for the products, the devices look great and feel solid and reliable."

- Are there any features that you like the look of in particular? How do you plan on using your launch bundle?

"I'll use the launch bundle on a daily basis, on the first hand to monitor my electrical system / batteries and on the other hand the bilge pump and water level. I’ve put my smart tag on the fridge already to check its temperature. Furthermore, knowing the main door is closed or not and having information about its status provides me peace of mind!

I will step by step upgrade my virtual crew with the other sensors and accessories available. I'm thinking about the smoke or monoxide detector and for sure the remote control in order to switch ON/OFF on devices like my heating system or dehumidifier."

Introducing the latest VirCru Ambassador – Thibaut from @goandsail!

Thibaut will be sharing his experience of installing and using VirCru on his Instagram feed over the next few weeks (follow for more).

- Let's start by finding out a bit about yourself. What attracted you to the world of sailing?

I first put my feet in an Optimist when I was 6. Since then, I haven't really stopped sailing but it has grown from a passion to an obsession over the last 5 years. I am not sure why – probably because sailing is simultaneously a sport, game, cerebral/therapeutic activity and travel means all at once! Sailing is the most complete and healthy activity, in my opinion.

- Are there any voyages you have planned for the end of this summer? Tell us about your plans for the Global Solo Challenge too!

I planned to solosail to the Orkney Islands this summer and come back, but sadly I will not make it this year as my boat refit encountered some delays. I sail all year long so would prefer the boat to be fully ready to avoid any risks. I am preparing for a long solo trip and the Global Solo Challenge is the dream that drives me. Prior to this project or another one, I'll have to find sponsors and patrons to be ready. This is the long term communication goal of GoAndSail.

- What advice do you have for people looking to get into sailing?

Just GoAndSail! There are possibilities and knowledge available everywhere but learning by doing remains the best way to learn. Be confident and don’t stress about making mistakes – it's the way we all learned and you will be surprised how good you quickly become. It may seem there is a lot to learn, but the goal to start with is not to master celestial navigation, just basic marine knots!
My second piece of advice: wear sailing gloves, always 🙂
