Unity 6.6 took WebGPU out of experimental and cut DX12 shader compiles by up to 80%. Godot's dev 5 landed 183 fixes from 78 contributors. And Twinmotion's new importer can't reimport your old assets.

Hii... Starting off with this new project now, which I'm calling "Granny's Unleashed" (might change that later haha). It's a 3D platformer where YOU are the Granny instead of the Granny being the enemy (as in most Granny games out there). ✨👀

This is the 3rd 3D game in the course that I've been doing, it keeps getting more and more complex, but I'm here for it! It's showing me just how powerful @godot_engine is. I'm excited to learn more every time I work on this game, hehe 🫶🏻

I know AI is there and it can nowadays create and generate code and games in a really small span of time, and maybe that's practical in today's world. But coding games and creating game assets and seeing them come to life gives me so much satisfaction and joy and I just wanna continue learning the traditional way of coding for now. I think getting the fundamentals in should be a high priority, and I am determined to do that before I try to make anything commercial at a large scale.

So yeah, welcome to my page, where I'll try to learn new things , starting from coding games. Hope you find some positive vibes here ✨🫶🏻

I've decided to give mini updates like this as well, so forgive me if it's chaotic or random at times, I really wanna document my learning journey at each stage, and I hope it motivates at least one more "young-at-heart" dreamer! ❤️

Ps- everything is on my GitHub (link in bio) if you're interested! 🫶🏻

[The Context] :

I've started Richard Allbert's Complete 3D Game Development using Godot Course as on Udemy (still have some more to do on 2D games , we'll get back to it later soon!), using the game engine @godotengine and it is worth every second! (As expected, Richard!)

Can't wait to show more of my progress and journey!! ✨❤️
.
Also, thank you for dropping by, please do feel free to drop any suggestions! Let's have a constructive discussion! hehe 🫶🏻

Cheers to the better versions of all of us!

🍎🍁🍂🪾
Maple Home
one of my biggest projects
our uni @muensterschoolofdesign held a game design course last winter semester. since we didn't want to let go of the warmth and comfort autumn provided, we (three graphic designers and one programmer of the @fh_muenster) decided to build an endless scrolling reaction mobile game in @godotengine where you play as a freshly moved out fox who has to gather material to decorate his den.

would you have thought that before this i was never so keen on drawing backgrounds in my illustrations?

🍎
our initials happen to spell Apfel (apple) but in a very abridged and slurred manner xD
this is our team as the characters present within the game, each working tirelessly on their designated tasks

A as character designer, minigame maker and animator
B as backgrounds and assets illustrator, animator and director
F as programmer and godot understander
L as UI designer and organizer

🪾
old scraggly sketches of what i envisioned for our game
vs
the near-final product
at the early stages we weren't even sure how exactly the fox would collect the material for their furniture, we just knew it would be assembled in the beavers workshop
🦊🤝🦫

both very fun styles i love to come back to occasionally

🌰
all the assets: trees, the collectibles that drop from the trees, obstacles that make you drop collectibles and the bushes that initiate the minigames

i found it most fun to imagine how the collectibles, which are just material you'd normally find in a forest, would combine in fictitious ways to make furniture. a fox wouldn't normally fit into a walnut bed, but i made it happen because we were completely free to do so.

other than freedom in proportions i made sure most things did make sense however. like how the book consists of leaves bound together by blades of grass, or how the blades of the ceiling fan are maple seeds.

🔨 🦫
the workshop.
here's where the assembly happens. second most visited region in the game.
beaver has had this workshop passed down from many generations of builders and crafters before her.

with the help of tree sap, the glue of the forest, she can assemble most anything, given it's biological material.
