This was shot at the end of May, but the idea started back in April, when I had gotten back from India and was feeling creatively deprived.

@molliepie and I hung out for the day, and she pitched me this idea of a young, playful woman playing dress-up in a mid-century modern home. At the time, I had no idea how I wanted to style it; I just knew I absolutely loved the idea and wanted to ease back into styling in a way that felt fun.

And that really became the starting point for this story, play.

An elegant dress with a scarf thrown on almost carelessly. Mismatched gloves. Tank tops and cardigans unevenly layered in colours. A skirt worn as a top. Textures mixed without taking themselves too seriously. Nike Air Forces with a gorgeous dress. Boxers peeking out from underneath sequins.

I think I also realized something about my own style. I love things that feel playful, soft, colourful, a little unexpected, and not too precious.

This was an absolute pleasure to style and such a joy to create alongside a gorgeous team. 💚

@nadinebhabs has quietly been stealing scenes for years—now, the rest of the world is finally paying attention 👀

Bhabha wears many jerseys: actor, comedian, writer and poet. She’s appeared in “Letterkenny” and “Kim’s Convenience”, penned punchlines for “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and even published a collection of poems in 2017. But it’s her role as Elena, the ride-or-die best friend of Kip (Robbie G.K.) in “Heated Rivalry”, that earned her a Canadian Screen Award and launched her into the TV stratosphere.

Jacob Tierney had Bhabha in mind when he was adapting the character from Rachel Reid’s bestselling book. “Jacob and I are very similar. We both joke around, and that’s a form of love for us, and I think he wrote Elena in that vein. So, I’m sure I passed through his mind at one point and then he’s just like, ‘Why can’t you be here?’”

Of course, Bhabha is being far too modest. Her wry wit made her an instant fan favourite, but it was her tender delivery of “He deserves sunshine. And so do you,” that turned the words into an anthem for romantic hopefuls everywhere.
