Video of the Week: DEAR [NAME] directed by Amara Abbas

DEAR [NAME], the four-minute short film, takes the familiar language of corporate rejection and turns it into a spoken-word performance about what remains after the inbox has moved on: self-doubt, frustration, resilience and the growing suspicion that nobody was looking in the first place. The script is built from real rejection lines sent to ethnic minority candidates, giving an anonymous and automated language back to the people receiving it.

Read the conversation with the film’s director and co-writer, Amara Abbas. From the waiting room and two-way glass to the use of sound, 35mm film and the decision to turn the language of rejection into something that can finally answer back.

We got lost in it, and that was the point.
MILANO DESIGN WEEK, thanks for inviting us in.

From Alcova to Artemest, Fuorisalone to hidden palazzos and industrial ruins, Milano Design Week felt less like an event and more like stepping into another world.

Crossing paths with Hannes Peer, Lina Ghotmeh, Emilia Tombolesi, Elvio Seta, Superstudio, Studio Flær, DEORON, Varia Instruments, MoscaPartners, Yont Studio, Studio Nudo, Louis Vuitton and so many others blending architecture, fashion, sound and space.
A week of experimentation, material poetry, and beautiful symmetry.

Still taking it all in… our first time exhibiting at Milan Design Week — and what an experience it has been.
We feel incredibly grateful to have been part of Sounds of Design — a collective exploration of sound, material, and perception. For a few days, this space became a place of listening, where form, texture, and presence existed in dialogue.
Thank you to everyone who stepped inside, who took the time, who engaged with the work.

A special thank you to Stefano @stefano__gs and Giulia @giuliazanetto for making this possible, and for all the care and energy behind it.

And thank you MDW — truly, wow.

I am back from Milan Design Week 2026, with a mixed bag of feelings.

➡️ The silent but continuous takeover of Fuorisalone by fashion brands is a highly discussed and controversial topic for sure. 💸

➡️ Everything seems to be „immersive“ today, which is such a worn-out concept, similar to „connecting the past with the present to shape the future.“ 😩

➡️ Also, I noticed a lack of multiple and crucial layers in many design pieces, it seems to be more important to have pieces for short-term visual stimulation rather than using design as a vehicle to find and drive research, purpose, meaning, values, material while bringing all together in aesthetic interpretation. 🫙

➡️ Nevertheless, I also made pleasant acquaintances and found very impressive new works, you need to dig deeper these days but once you found them the joy is sparking. Here are my Milan Design Week 2026 highlights:

1. @fromm.lab exhibition at @alcova.milano with my @heiligobjects Bastion Side Table (of course 😎) curated by @studio__etiennebastormagi
2. New pieces of @johannesbudde for Serafini
3. @_leonardozanatta showing light sculptures at @piloto_milano
4. @isola.design celebrating 10th anniversary
5. @karimoku_official at @capsule.global
6. @costantinogucci genius pieces at jar-dropping @movimentogallery
7. Sensually curated exhibition of @openhousemagazine with @mangohomecollection
8. @deoron space and overall curation
9. @bwbsurfacetechnology collaboration with @pantertourron
10. Sound of Design exhibition of @golden.side

Every achievement comes from hard work, skills, and above all, the people who make it possible. From this Milano Design Week, I take with me not only a unique experience, but also the value of the people and their stories.
