Today at @newyorkcomiccon Indie Publishing Panel I spoke about something super near and dear to my heart: this absolutely amazing community we have created.

I've gotten this far in BIG part thanks to every single booklover out there that has believed in me. I've reached out to the most incredible businesses, events, and bookstores, and somehow they gave me a chance.

I'm never going to stop hyping up our people, the fact that we are all here for each other is what makes this such a wonderful place to be at.

Special shoutout to @bibliodditiesfragrance and @haintsandhollers_ for supporting authors and taking the time to create entire experiences to pair with our books. To my editors @midnightmarkups and @danyelletheeditor for being so thorough and dedicated to bringing the best possible version of my books to life. To @blackwalnutbooks @goldenleafbooks and @paper_moon_troy for being the first bookstores to believe in me. To @_storyforge for building a place where authors and readers can be safe from all the noise.

We would like to say THANK YOU to author Antonio Roman-Alcalá for discussing his book “North Stars of Emancipation” and to the panelists Emet Vitale-Penniman @emetwvp of @soulfirefarm , Ericka Williams Rodriguez @xenolog_ of @serenitysolidarity7, and Scott Kellogg of @radixcenter.

Some key highlights:
- Discussion about the similarities in food movements in both California and Upstate New York.
- Systemic issues that make food justice projects necessary, and what local organizations have been doing.
- Discussions on coalition building with people that you do not wholeheartedly agree with.
- Reflections on the Capital Region’s unique nature having a short gradient between both urban and rural areas.

We are thankful to all the attendees, and @goldenleafbooks for making copies of the book available for purchase.

It is heartwarming for us to provide a space where difficult, yet necessary conversations can happen.

Join us for a book talk on "North Stars of Emancipation: California’s Diverse Food and Farming Movements in Times of Racial Reckoning" with author Antonio Roman-Alcalá. This pop-up summer event will include a panel discussion on food movements in the Capital Region with Emet Vitale-Penniman @emetwvp of @soulfirefarm , Ericka Williams Rodriguez @xenolog_ of @serenitysolidarity7, and Scott Kellogg of @radixcenter .

This event takes place on Tue July 21 at 7pm.

"North Stars of Emancipation" traces the recent evolution of California’s food movements towards a more liberatory model grounded in diverse radical traditions. Drawing on his work in urban farming, radical politics, and academic research, author Antonio Roman-Alcalá will discuss the themes of his book with local food justice advocates.

I had to privilege of going to a friend’s book signing yesterday and it was at an adorable book shop just outside of Albany, NY. They support indie and local authors, and we support them as a small business! If you’re in the area, stop by & check them out! Say hi to Mr. Growley, the shop pup, too!

Somehow found a bookstore in the 518 that I did NOT KNOW EXISTED and it is BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING and they have a magical couch and stickers and at least two books on Mothman. Waterford, you have been keeping secrets!

Thank you so much to @prhaudio for an ALC in exchange for my honest review!

I have been a CM Waggoner fan since The Village Library Demon Hunting Society and when I saw she had a new book coming out last month, I was so excited! And let me tell you, it absolutely did not disappoint.

And then to make things even better, she came to do a signing at the local indie bookstore near my house last weekend and I got to meet her and gush about my love of her books! (Shout out to my fave people at @goldenleafbooks for hosting this signing!)

A quick, witty, whimsical, cozy fantasy featuring a grumpy witch who raises an abandoned prince turned barber who is called to inherit his throne, to his mother’s dismay. Gretsella is absolutely hilarious and Bradley is so dumb and loveable 😂 I had a lot of fun with this one!

Also, the narrator of the audiobook was amazing and made this read an even better experience!

•SYNOPSIS•

Once upon a time, a somewhat wicked witch named Gretsella lived in a cozy little cottage in the Dark Forest of Brigandale. She dispensed herbs and tinctures at reasonable prices, met with her slightly oddball coven on a regular basis, and had absolutely no need of any further company whatsoever, thank you very much. But then one afternoon, Gretsella came home to find a screaming infant on her doorstep.

Against all her better judgement, she took the baby in. She named him Bradley.

But her dreams for an unremarkable yet fulfilling life for her son are shattered when small woodland animals start prophesying that he is the lost prince and should ascend to the throne. Bradley ignores Gretsella’s advice that prophecies and talking chipmunks are to be avoided at all costs, and sets off for the capital. But soon confusion and chaos are reigning, and scheming courtiers are using Bradley for their own ends. Sometimes a witch has to roll up her sleeves and take matters into her own cauldron. So Gretsella resolves to bring about the downfall of her darling son…
