During COVID, I got a message from a young man named Ben Stromberg. He was living at his parents’ house, collecting used golf clubs, and trying to figure out how to turn it into a real business.

That first message turned into a weekly call. For six to ten weeks, Ben showed up with questions about business and life: how to grow, what to focus on, and what to do next. He was prepared, curious, and hungry to learn. It was so much fun to watch and help.

A lot of people would have called it a side hustle. Ben didn’t. He believed in what he was building at a time when plenty of people probably didn’t, and his parents believed in him enough to let him chase it.

Fast forward to the @pga show last year. @benstromberg found me in the crowd, walked up, and thanked me for those calls from all those years ago. That meant more to me than he probably knows.

Because here’s the truth: advice is cheap. What Ben did with it is what matters. He didn’t coast. He did the work, and today @golf.roots is doing incredible things to make the game more affordable and accessible for new golfers.

Ben, I’m proud of you. Keep going. 🙌

Players, coaches, and anyone with a big dream: take it seriously long before anyone else does.

It’s all because of God‘s will that I have improved a great deal by constantly putting in the work and that work is far from over!

These were a blast! Using the @golf.roots No. 1 putter and gently used @bauerhockey hockey sticks, these flat sticks were auctioned off to raise funds for the 2026 @northbrookbluehawks Golf Outing supporting the group’s amazing youth hockey programming.

I’ll be making more, but send me a note at john@greenwaygolfworksstudio.com if you’re interested in repurposing any hockey sticks or putter heads taking up space in the garage.

Forged in Fort Worth, Texas, back when the Ben Hogan Company built clubs the way Hogan himself demanded: precision over marketing, feel over forgiveness. These blades went through multiple stages of hand-grinding and polishing before they ever touched a shelf. No cavity back bailout, no oversized face. Just a clean, compact blade that rewards a ball struck the way it’s supposed to be struck.

That’s exactly why I still love to play them. There’s a feedback loop with a club like this that modern irons engineer away. Hit it pure and you feel it in your hands, not just see it on a launch monitor. Miss it and you know instantly. It keeps you honest.

Golf without the gates means playing gear with a story, not just a spec sheet. These Apex Blades have outlasted three generations of “next big thing” in club technology. Still in the bag. Still get the job done.

❤️⛳️🖤
