Two ancient monasteries you shouldn’t miss when visiting Mardin🇹🇷

📍Deyrulzafaran Monastery — Located just outside Mardin, this historic Syriac Orthodox monastery dates back to the 5th century. Once the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate, it is known for its beautiful golden limestone architecture and peaceful courtyards.
📍Mor Gabriel Monastery — Founded in 397 AD, this is one of the oldest surviving Syriac Orthodox monasteries in the world. Located near Midyat, it is a remarkable place where ancient architecture and living religious traditions meet.

Both monasteries offer a glimpse into the rich cultural and religious heritage of southeastern Türkiye, beyond the region’s more familiar sights.

Don't forget to save this reel for your future trip to Mardin!

Founded in the 4th century and located in Eastern Türkiye, Mor Gabriel Monastery is one of the world’s oldest Christian monasteries that are still active.
Together with @goturkiye and @gomardin I visited the monastery, home to the Syriac Orthodox Christian community.
Here, you’ll hear a dialect of Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus. This ancient sanctuary preserves centuries of faith, culture, and history. A true hidden gem of Mesopotamia!

Anzeige | Ad Mesopotamia, a journey I’ll never forget.

From the ancient streets of Mardin to the rich history of Diyarbakır and the unforgettable sunrise on Mount Nemrut. Every place had its own story, its own beauty, and something that made me appreciate this region even more.

Thousands of years of history, incredible hospitality, beautiful people, and moments that will stay with me for a long time.

Forever grateful for the memories, the people, and the opportunity to experience this beautiful part of Türkiye. 🇹🇷

Until next time, inshallah.

Grazie @goturkiye @gomardin per questi ricordi.
