The best experiences do not always ask for more.

Sometimes they ask you to slow down, look closer and give your full attention to where you are.

A morning in the landscape. A table prepared with care. A conversation that lasts longer than expected.

This is the kind of luxury we believe in : space, connection and the freedom to be fully present.

Watching the world with our own eyes...

It's crazy how rare it is to be completely offline.

This weekend in Kogelberg, we fully allowed ourselves to rest in this rare opportunity. Trading signal for stars, fast dopamine for slow creativity.

The full clip is available on YouTube if you're curious! Hoping to produce more long form work in the next few months x

“Kom Weer” - come again.

A fitting message from our first visit to South Africa’s West Coast, because two nights in Paternoster were enough to have us planning the next trip before we had even left.

Swipe through to see why “Kom Weer” turned out to be the perfect ending to our first Paternoster stay.

Next time - West Coast wildflowers, beach horse rides, Langebaan, St Helena Bay, nature reserves and more of the little coastal villages along the way.

Have you explored South Africa’s West Coast yet? Save this for your Paternoster travel plans — and follow for more South African travel, wildlife and slower stays.

Paternoster starts with the little things.

Colourful fishing boats, whitewashed houses and that unmistakable West Coast charm made this coastal village feel special from the moment we arrived.

This was the pace of our stay in Paternoster.

A glass of wine, the Ocean in front of us and nowhere we needed to rush to. Exactly the kind of slower travel we love.

One of my favourite spaces at Gonana.

Warm timber, woven lights and a relaxed communal dining area gave this Paternoster accommodation so much character.

The room felt completely different after dark.

Warm lighting, natural textures and that wooden headboard gave our room at Gonana such a calm, cosy feel in the evening.

Coming back to this at night.

A softly lit room, a quiet pathway and the sound of the coast nearby.

Sometimes the best travel moments are the quiet ones.

Standing outside our room, looking toward the sea and taking in the stillness of Paternoster and the West Coast.

The kind of path that makes you slow down.

Flowers, fynbos and a pathway leading from Gonana toward the beach.

A Paternoster classic.

Dinner at Voorstrand Restaurant, right on the beach and surrounded by the character of this old West Coast fishing village.

A West Coast sunset worth slowing down for. Paternoster Western Cape Cape Town Gonana Guest House

Acacia House, Gonana - Paternoster

Everything about Acacia feels as though someone has quietly turned the saturation down and applied the perfect Instagram filter.

The whitewashed walls. The weathered timber. The woven pendant lights. The soft linen, sandy neutrals and flashes of black. Even the view from the veranda, where Paternoster’s white roofs tumble towards the sea, looks suspiciously like a photograph someone has spent far too long trying to recreate.

But the lovely thing is that it doesn't feel contrived.

Gonana’s Acacia House is aesthetic without being precious. Beautiful without requiring you to tiptoe around it. The kind of place where you notice the design, but then get on with actually living in it.

There are little details everywhere: a tiny succulent in a glass jar beside the bed, beautifully patterned cushions, a roaring little fireplace, a coffee plunger ready for slow mornings and wine glasses waiting for the evening. Nothing excessive. Nothing that exists simply to fill a shelf. Everything feels chosen, and everything earns its place.

The palette is earthy and calm, the textures warm, and the whole house has that slightly sun-bleached, West Coast feeling that makes you want to wear linen and drink wine.

For us, the real test was whether it worked with two small children. It did. Acacia is beautifully finished, but it isn't a showhouse. I didn't spend three days saying, “Careful!” There was room for children to be children, for sandy feet and wet towels and the general detritus of family life.

The upside-down layout puts two double bedrooms downstairs, then opens upstairs into the kitchen, dining area and lounge, with doors leading onto the veranda. Beyond it, a patchwork of whitewashed roofs stretches towards the beach. Downstairs, the shared pool with little sister Aloe provides another welcome distraction.

Thank you to @gonana for such an incredible stay, and for hosting our little family so beautifully. We loved every minute.
