Vinyl Fantasy: tales from a record collection (214)

Andy Hunter - Go [Nettwerk]

Andy Hunter’s Go remains one of those rare records that seemed to arrive with its own atmosphere.

The original carried a cinematic sweep and rich sound design that instantly set Hunter apart from many of his peers. Yet it was Antillias’ towering remix that truly ignited dancefloors, becoming a treasured weapon for Tiësto, Guy Ornadel and countless trance DJs at the genre’s peak. It balanced emotion with power in a way few records managed.

Hunter understood that the greatest trance records were about more than energy. They created worlds you could lose yourself in, and Go remains a timeless reminder of that rare gift. 💫 (W.D)

Gatecrasher Night | Republic Nightclub, Sheffield (1998)
Episode 20 – Part One

Archive footage filmed in 1998 at Republic Nightclub, capturing Gatecrasher — one of the defining weekly sessions of the late ’90s.

Originally broadcast Friday 16 October 1998.

Presented by Lisa Nash, featuring Scott Bond, DJ Taucher and Guy Ornadel.

For some, Gatecrasher was more than a night out — they wanted to get married there. They never wanted to leave.
With a 12,000-strong membership, the unexpected wasn’t rare — it was routine.

Pure UK club culture.
No filters. No phones. Just energy.

Happy Creamfields weekend (for those that celebrate!)
So I came across this preview of Creamfields 2001, presumably the footage is from 2000 but that’s a guess tbh.
2001 was the first year I attended heading up with a bunch of pals including @adamlongobardi.
Loads of highlights but what still sticks out was @gornadel closing out and having the main PA turned off, proceeding to turn the monitors around and then using his (Sony) headphones as mic, announcing “Creamfields, they tried to shut us down but they can’t stop us” and going on to drop The Farm “All Together Now”

Gatecrasher kidz go WILD! "You can't beat the UK club scene, there's nowhere like it" We previously visited Crasher vs. Gods Kitchen at the Sanctuary, Milton Keynes, Republic in Sheffield and now the kidz rave on in Birmingham.
Gatecrasher, from its conception back in 93 at Bakers to near domination at other venues in Brum, Sheffield and Nottingham etc, plus World tours, it sure was a name to be reckoned with! Back in 99 Simon Raine and Scott Bond invited us back to #Gatecrasher , this time at The Que Club in #Birmingham ! Feat Scott Bond, Paul from Psychonauts, Guy Ornadel, cameos by Sasha, Judge Jules with Janine, plus loads of you lot!
Hit the link in our bio to see the Full Version released only on the official YT channel! Let's go back in time, and dream of the way it used to be! Lovely! #clubavision #90srewind #90s #clubbing #90sRavers #nightlife #00s #00srewind #electronicdancemusic

Only took me just over a quarter century to put this up! Still remember every second though!

Get someone to look at you like Oakey looks at Guy Ornadel!
Cracking footage captured by Guy Ornadel, can anyone ID the remix?

As Creamfields rolls round for another edition, check out footage from the 2000 edition presented by Seb Fontaine. I was at this edition and I recall it being hot in the day but cold AF in the night.
My crew and I used to get a minibus to events all over the UK and on this occasion the driver crashed into the pumps at a petrol station about 5 mins from my house, proceeding to drive away (from the scene of the crime) - apparently the police paid a visit to his house but he was sleeping in the minibus 🙃 suffice to say we didn’t use him again although he was cheap and didn’t mind us getting up to all sorts!!l 😵‍💫
Some great footage here from the likes of Oakey, Judge Jules, Pete Tony, Guy Ornadel, Chicane, James Lavelle, Nick Warren, and Timo Maas… Some of the track info isn’t correct but I guess the producer was making the most of the DJs riders!!!
