Estranged street fighters Ryu and Ken Masters get thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament -- a brutal clash of fists, fate and fury. However, behind the battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons from their past.Content expanded.

Critics Consensus: The latest iteration of Street Fighter has plenty of affection for its source material and doesn't lack for dizzying style, but its incoherent storytelling and juvenile humor make for a disappointing regression among video game adaptations.

“Street Fighter” (2026) is a martial arts film directed by Kitao Sakurai starring Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang & Roman Reigns. This was a film I approached with considerable anticipation. Unfortunately, despite promising trailers, the final product proved deeply disappointing. The screenplay is the film’s greatest weakness, featuring a generic narrative, underdeveloped characters and painfully clichéd dialogue. Performances are inconsistent, although Centineo, Koji, Reigns, Dastmalchian, Momoa and Schulz stand out positively. Cody Rhodes, however, is particularly unconvincing as Guile. Ultimately, the writing undermines much of the cast’s potential. The treatment of several iconic characters is equally frustrating. Chun-Li is reduced to sexualised imagery, undermining her status as a formidable fighter. M. Bison lacks menace, while Blanka is similarly mishandled. The absence of a substantial tournament is also baffling for an adaptation of a fighting game. Nevertheless, the relationship between Ken and Ryu is portrayed effectively, providing one of the film’s few genuine strengths. The action is equally underwhelming, with rushed fight sequences lacking excitement and intensity. Akuma is defeated surprisingly easily, while the anticipated confrontation between Ken and Dark Ryu ends far too quickly to deliver a satisfying payoff. Visually, the film fares better, benefiting from impressive editing and a strong soundtrack, although some musical choices feel out of place. The animated sequences are particularly impressive and arguably represent the film at its best. A fully animated adaptation might have better captured the source material’s distinctive energy and aesthetic. Overall the 2026 adaptation of Street Fighter is a frustrating missed opportunity. Its uninspired writing, questionable characterisation and underwhelming action make it one of my biggest cinematic disappointments of the year so far.

Did Hollywood waste @mevidyutjammwal , or does the fighting deliver? 🥊

@streetfightermovie , Kitao Sakurai’s Hollywood action martial arts film based on Capcom’s iconic fighting game franchise, drops Ryu (@andrewkojigram ) and Ken (@ncentineo) into a lethal tournament that exposes a global criminal plot. Vidyut Jammwal makes an authentic, agile Dhalsim, but his brief screen time will leave Indian cinema fans wanting far more. Still, the hard-hitting choreography and pulsing electronic score keep the arena buzzing. This honest movie review: a kinetic video game combat experience that is best for arcade loyalists.

Did Dhalsim deserve more screen time, or was Vidyut Jammwal’s cameo enough for you?

Yesterday afternoon, I saw the new @streetfightermovie!!! I look at this movie the way I look at the recent animated Mario movies, as in this was made FOR THE FANS!!! If you’re a #StreetFighter fan you’re gonna have A TON OF FUN with this movie, if you’re a casual moviegoer, that probably won’t be the case. As someone who did play some rounds of Street Fighter growing up, I had a blast with this movie. The cast was well picked, and they play their parts well, there’s lots of fun action, it’s VERY SILLY, on purpose of course, and the score by @leobirenberg and @zrobusa KICKS ASS!!! If you’re a Street Fighter fan, this is the movie you’ve been waiting for your entire life, but if you’re a casual moviegoer, you probably won’t get into it. Also, STAY for the MIDDLE of the credits, there’s nothing at the very end, but DEFINITELY STAY for the mid-credits!!

😶‍🌫️ #streetfighter director Kitao Sakurai on the most logistically complicated scene in the film (could E. Honda be more perfectly cast than #hirookigoto ?) and the biggest story changes.

Ready. Set. Fight 💥🥊
