What a fun time at @thebroadwayfest today! I won the lottery for today (the last day) and it was a really nice, well-run experience (even if it rained at the end.) Saw lots of great performances in a beautiful setting, ran into a bunch of friends, ate a lot of free Stewart’s ice cream, and had an all-around lovely time! Until next year, Broadway fest!

We love Jean Smart! The theme of this two show day is brevity- both shows one act and under 90 minutes.

Won lottery tickets to Floyd Collins and the seats are surprisingly excellent for lottery- though truly there are no bad seats in the Beaumont. Ready for some spelunking and yodel! #broadway

Thanks, Ruth!

Before becoming the voice of wartime London, or taking on the terror tactics of Senator Joe McCarthy, Edward Roscoe Murrow (born Egbert, which he hated) was a teenager in the tiny town of Edison, Washington. It was his English teacher, Ruth Lawson, who spotted his potential early, and nudged him to join the three girls on the high school debate team. Their debates included complex international issues, like whether the U.S. should join the International Court of Justice. Edward was the standout.

Little Edison High School offered a host of extracurricular activities, and Murrow did almost all of them: school orchestra, the glee club, baseball, basketball. He sang solos in school operettas and was president of the student body. But it was Lawson’s invitation to debate that gave him his first taste of oratory and global politics——and first sharpened the skills he’d one day use to speak truth to power on national television.

The debate team won their region. Murrow won the long game.

In honor of Murrow's birthday today, we are making Marvin Koner photos of him available for sale at our Etsy shop's "Icons of the 20th Century" section. And by the way, George Clooney as Murrow in "Good Night, and Good Luck." opened on Broadway earlier this month, and the play will run through June.

Don't forget to follow us for more stories behind Koner's mid-century photographs.

Show #2! Had to catch this one again before it closed- I entered the lottery for today but then bought tickets on tdf (for not much more than what the lottery tix go for) because I NEVER win lotteries. Like literally have only won once and it was in 2009 for Hair, when all the lotteries were in person and you literally had to put your name in a hat and stand around to wait 😂 So of course I won the lottery today 🤣 I actually got someone to take the tdf tickets because I wanted to see this one from the mezz this time. I can’t believe how great these lottery seats are- front mezz center- a perfect view! Go see this show before it closes on the 10th. It’s so special. #twoshowday #comeonfeeltheillinoise #illinoisebroadway

Show #1 of 2- off Broadway for Ain’t Done Bad- another dance show, this one to set to Orville Peck songs. And the tickets were only 5 dollars- you can’t do much better than that!
