In 2012, legend has it that my 101 class taught by @firekatbird contained a scene wherein I delivered @gottlieb.studio ‘s beautiful butt baby. Baltimore improv at its classiest.

Where desire speaks first, bodies exist beyond binaries, and expression refuses to be softened. KittySu Beauty is built for those who own their closeness, their confidence, and their contradictions — bold in presence, fluid in identity, unapologetic in pleasure.
This midnight, we begin.

Flare ups aside, yesterday was a good day! Seeing a lot of my fellow disabled and neurodivergent creative comrades at the Baltimore Disability Pride Arts Fest made my weekend! 🫶🏽 So thankful to @gouchercathy @makestudiobmore @bmorecityofaccessiblearts @prattlibrary for the love and support! Bringing art and zines to my people is everything to me! I had my best mate by my side #KnoxRoxs and he made new friends and ran into old ones too!

Super fun seeing @brownonthespectrum @riseartscenter @gottlieb.studio and meeting @walkingdiscovery @airjordan0921 and a ton of other new and familiar faces!!! Can’t wait for next year’s fest!

I’m telling true stories with AI at an upcoming symposium:
https://arts.umd.edu/teaching-arts-in-the-age-of-ai-symposium

This cover photo is me. The book came out in 1991 so I’m guessing I was around ten in the photo. As a kid I regularly modeled for my father’s commercial photography work, so my image was used in a variety of ads and books like this one (I’ve never seen a physical copy of the book, so I just ordered one of the last copies I could find online).

Coincidentally, I was having trouble in school at the time. I found spelling and reading extremely difficult and would later be diagnosed with ADHD. I was not diagnosed as dyslexic, but to paraphrase the doctor, ‘When Jason see’s the letter ‘h’ he sees a chair, and a letter ‘y’ and a letter ‘d’ and a letter ‘p’ etc’. Reading and spelling was a struggle then and it continues to be today (I am grateful for spell check and audiobooks).

Maybe this is why I feel a strange sense of empathy when the AI appears to struggle with the spelling of words like ‘Trouble’.

This video stood out because of the way the letter ‘I’ gets inserted causing it to read, ‘Why I Is My Child Having Trouble at School?’ Since this is a kind of self-portrait the introduction of the letter ‘I’ feels meaningful.

Process + Prompts:
made in Runway using ‘first’ and ‘last’ frames
‘first’ frame is the book cover image from Amazon in a three dimensional mockup made with Firefly in Photoshop
‘last’ frame is a copy of the ‘first’ frame with two changes: 1. isolated the image of myself and used Runway to create an alternate version gesturing upward with his arms towards the book title. 2. selected a rectangular chunk of text in the middle of the title and flipped it horizontally.
used the ‘first’ and ‘last’ frames in Runway with this prompt: ‘Boy on the cover of a book. Boy waves his hands, points up and makes funny ironic faces as the typography transforms in dynamic motion. Letters rotate and transform in hypnotic graphic patterns. The typography transforms beautifully. Static text and empty background.’
