Blending handmade instruments, alternative tunings, field recordings, and improvisation, the music of go went gong explores the spaces between drone, folk, ambient, and experimental music. The compositions in this mesmerising 30 minute release were made using a Max/MSP patcher, bowed psaltery, percussion and overdubbed clarinet, to create monumental instrumental pieces - vibrant strings, humming drones, shimmering textures and celestial percussion. Alongside his recorded work, go went gong has developed a distinct live practice centred around improvisation, collaboration, and site-specific performance. Recent appearances have included an expanded ensemble performance at Pianodrome in Edinburgh, where he was joined by friends and fellow musicians in an ever-shifting configuration of handmade instruments, clarinet, percussion amongst other intruments. These performances continue to shape his recorded output, feeding directly into the evolving language of his studio work, most notably this 30-minute release where Giorgos's skilled techniques are layered into dense, resonant structures of luminous texture, drone, and unfolding harmonic drift. MAX SKETCHES Available now on Bandcamp.

It was wonderful to witness a very special concert last week at @pianodrome, organised by @intothemusicscotland to celebrate the musical achievements of the young people they've been working with at their inclusive music sessions this year (including my son Angus - spotted here in his superman t-shirt). The improvised music performed was hypnotic, imaginative and beautiful. For many of the performers it was their first ever public performance and they can all feel very proud. Thanks and congratulations to the enormously talented and supportive Giorgios (@gowentgong) and Ceylan (@bell.lungs) for their work over the year, and to @creativescots for facilitating this rare and precious opportunity for young people with learning disabilities. The smile on Angus' face in the last photo as he accepted the crowd's applause says it all ❤️

For the go went gong release (AD003), we decided it would be a great opportunity to feature an artist for the album's artwork. @chema.studio created a series of sketchbook drawings and paintings, and we decided that one of these would be the perfect pairing for the album, Max Sketches. The playful, exploratory lines and bold simplistic colours are a perfect match for the album and the music. Max Sketches is available for pre-order now and will also be released on limited edition cassette. Link in bio
