I’m so incredibly grateful to our entire team, the work they put in, and this year of new and challenging experiences.

I could go on and on about the importance of press freedom, or the ways in which The Eastern Echo has set me up for success in a competitive field, but that would take paragraphs of space that I’m fairly certain Instagram does not allot.

Working as managing editor for operations has been an amazing opportunity, and i’m so proud of every single one of our team members for their dedication, passion, and care for keeping the Washtenaw area informed.

I have no doubt that each and every one of you will go on to do amazing things, and I can’t wait to see it.

Go scoop!

Our first editor this Friday is Gabriella! Gabriella is our Marketing Director, and a sophomore majoring in marketing.

Gabriella Payeur uses she/they pronouns, and has worked for The Eastern Echo since August 2024. She started as a news reporter, then moved to Marketing Director in the 2025 summer semester.

Their job entails pulling together the editorial and business sides to create interest in The Eastern Echo. She helps plan events, find advertisers, generate story ideas, and more to fulfill this. For them, the best part is the people she gets to work with.

A weird talent Gabriella has is she can fold her tongue in three. It's called a clover tongue and about one third of the population can do it. Their go-to coffee order is an iced latte with soy milk. Learn more about them through their photo dump, including a baby picture of them from when they were 4 or 5.

Gabriella is on X (@gpayeur16) and Instagram (@gpayeur12). Contact her with any questions or news tips at gpayeur@emich.edu.
