Physical therapists in Washington are on the cusp of significant cuts to their reimbursement by Premera Blue Cross. If you are someone who accesses physical therapy in this state or would like to continue to see one-on-one care this should get your attention. When payers reduce reimbursement to clinicians but continue to increase premiums to their members there is something wrong. In the Seattle area we have seen record inflation and our payer contracts have not kept up with life for nearly 20+years. You could see physical therapists in Washington drop to the lowest paid professionals period with significant cost to obtain a DPT. This in the face of a nationwide shortage of PTs of nearly 25K! In many states quality therapists that want a living wage must go out of network and the result is a cash pay system. Take action today and let your employer know that access to individual care is important to you. Super Jock ‘n Jill is proud to work with many of the talented physical therapists of the Pacific Northwest and equally proud to host Medical Nights (Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15-7 pm) at our store in Greenlake. Medical Nights have been a staple at SJnJ since the opening 50 years ago. Juli Larson of Greenwood Physical Therapy, aka GPT, has volunteered to serve our customers every month. Juli, in addition to all of the PT’s from GPT, are a wealth of knowledge. In the rare moments when there are no customers asking questions, SJnJ staff will take the opportunity to inquire about themselves. They truly are a wealth of knowledge! Back in April, SJnJ employee Lance Carter was talking with GPT about the Video Run Form Analysis they provide as part of their services and thought, “More runners need to know about this invaluable service.” As a coach of triathletes and runners, Lance has witnessed the value of improving running form to help make a runner more efficient, which is another way of saying people can run faster with less effort by improving their running form. In addition to the increase in efficiency, GPT uses their Video Run Form Analysis to help prevent potential running injuries. Contact GPT to schedule your Run Form Video Analysis and learn how you can improve your running form and prevent injuries. And do not forget you can always come by SJnJ on one of the Medical Nights for free advice from one of the wonderful physical therapists who volunteer their time. Juli Larson of GPT will be at SJnJ tonight, Tuesday May 20th 6:15-7 pm. Stop by and talk with Juli about having your run gait analyzed or any other running/walking issue you are experiencing. ____ For more information about Greenwood Physical Therapy’s services, including their gait analysis, or to contact Juli directly, please use the information below: GPT Blog post: https://www.greenwoodpt.com/gait-analysis-good-for-running/ Website: https://www.GreenwoodPT.com Email: juli@greenwoodpt.com Phone: (206) 388-2549 Instagram bio: @gpt_seattle

In late 2021, on my first Covid press trip I was fortunate enough to land in the Nike Sports Research Lab recovery room while I was experiencing this deeply inaccessible lower back pain. I could move fine with full range of motion but I was so uncomfortable in stillness — standing, laying or sitting. I wish I knew this woman’s name in the pic, but after poking around some she very plainly told me nothing I’d been doing was going to relieve this pain from my psoas. I didn’t even know what that was at the time! I went back to her later that afternoon and found nearly instant relief. Since then, I have been very consciously strengthening and caring for it. (It’s the only muscle that connects your legs to the bendy part of your spine! And it’s essential in so much of our basic movement.) In my first for @natgeo, I wrote about the psoas, back pain and how to support it with expert insights from @nyugrossman’s assistant professor of rehabilitation Dr. Richard Lau, DPT and pelvic specialist at @gpt_seattle Aimee Lake, and DPT and strength coach at @motivny @chungychung. Per Dr. Michael Furman via Dr. Lau, motion is the body’s lotion so don’t be weird when I start saying that all the time! Link is in stories and it’ll live on nationalgeographic.com 🫶🏻
