My morning exercise used to be a 90min run either alone or with friends…

In March I decided to get surgery and scheduled it for the end of April.

Arthroscopic Haglund’s Deformity removal surgery went great.

I survived the 2 weeks in a splint/soft cast with the help of family that came in from out of town on shifts. And Sol waited to start crawling until the day after I was weight bearing in a boot.

I did my PT and wore my boot. I passed the 6wk postop visit with flying colors and was cleared to start my return to run protocol.

That’s when I was reminded of the difference between knowing and doing… the hard way.

My “jogs” for my walk/jog protocol went from 7:30 pace to 6:00 pace within a week and guess what - I ended up back in the boot.

Progress really is that squiggly line, and if I’m lucky, it will have been 4 years since I could just go out for a 90min run without worrying if it will cause serious damage by the time I can do it again.

There is a difference between giving up and letting go, and sometimes letting go is the only way to move forward.

I’m still working on letting go of the identity I once had as a runner, and welcoming the new one, however she might be. And hopefully that approach will help me to practice the patience I preach. 😏

I appreciated seeing @sarah.b.true post pictures of her bump late in pregnancy, so here’s a dump of shots from 37 weeks.

My back is totally pain free now, thanks to some regular pool time at a friend’s house.

I am almost over bronchitis that my parents accidentally brought down from Richmond with them for the baby shower 2 weeks ago.

I got an exposed blood vessel cauterized off my face and it’s healing up nicely - partly thanks to the antibiotics I had to go on for the bronchitis.

So yeah, I’m doing great! 😂

But seriously - I’m super grateful for what has been a relatively easy, uneventful and healthy pregnancy.

I’m grateful that I can get through my days pain-free and even ride my bike next to @coleatkins85 for his 12mi run this morning.

And I’m more grateful and in awe of my body for what it has done over the last 35 weeks than any other period of my life - and the greatest adventures still lie ahead! 😅😬😍

Baby A seems to be in no rush to exit, and now that my back doesn’t hurt, I’m happy to host for as long as I need to. 🤰
