I’ve always loved art. Growing up on a small council estate I didn’t have much access to it in a typical sense, but my mom used to save me all the free catalogues that got delivered and I would cut out the pages to make collages. To create is intrinsic to us all, regardless of our means.

I think there’s an idea that buying art has to be expensive and only certain people can do it, but I like the idea of gradually filling your home. I’m incredibly lucky to have some very talented friends, and some of my favourite pieces in my home are by them. I love that o will grow up surrounded by the fruits of female creative labour.

In our own small way, josh and I wanted to combat all the fixed ideas about art, who should have it and what it is. We decided that we didn’t want permanent spaces for art in our home, but instead the ability to be fluid. For pieces to move around the house depending on our mood and needs. For me, it makes the space feel more alive and helps me interact with the environment. Since this photo was taken, this wall is entirely different.

During lockdown I decided I wanted to share more of my home, my life and myself here. Perhaps the fear that If we should somehow disappear, for a moment we existed?

I believe life is ceremonious, and the way you prepare your home supports your ability to be absorbed into the rituals you perform. Home is a way of infusing the everyday mundane with the sacred. The process of playing records, of making tea, watering the plants. Life is ceremony.

I think my home reflects this, partly made of thrift store finds and partly of investment pieces, but everything with soul. Objects which invoke honest and real emotive reactions within me. Home isn’t just a place I lay my head, it’s the place I whisper my secrets and plan my dreams. It’s the container of my imagination.
