Hello omg!!! I’ve gotten a little influx of followers and I realized I’ve never said Hi!!! I’m Grace :) I’m a horror lover, bookseller, and sommelier in NYC. I’ve been reading dozens of books a year for as long as I can remember (now averaging about 80-100/year) and have always been drawn to freaky weird books.

I specialize in reading horror written by anyone who is not a cis man! I go for books lovingly described as “A Woman In A Situation” by my coworkers. Psychological, folk, and gothic horror are the basic pillars of what I read but I’ll read anything!!!!

I’ve been so lucky to be raised in a family that valued books so much (as seen in the last two slides, my parents reading to my preschool class 🫶🥰) and also to have friends who read the books I recommend.

Outside of horror, I love being & cooking vegan, cats, saying I’m a writer and not writing, and being bad at video games. Thank you so much for reading my sweet little book recommendations <3

When I was born, the third in a line of girls, my oldest sister said my eyes were black. I screamed and cried nonstop and only my mother’s strength and calmness allowed her to remain sane with 3 kids under 5.
When I read the description of this book [second slide], I immediately sent it to my mom.

I am blessed to have a mother who is not jealous of me whatsoever and have to explain to my many therapists that while I have issues, they do NOT stem from my sweet mom!!!! The main character in TANTRUM by Rachel Eve Moulton did not have the same upbringing. Her narcissistic, abusive mother brought violent boyfriends into their one bedroom apartment and tied her feet together while she slept. Thea is determined to not do the same damage to her children. She raises her first two boys in the desert outside Albuquerque easily and with joy, but then Lucia comes along with a head full of teeth and a violent affect.
Having a daughter hurts and heals Thea. Women raising girls have to come to terms with parts of themselves that they would rather push down and ignore. Thea has given and given and given but only realizes how empty she has become when she sees her daughter, full of life and full of rage.
This book was a treat and such a beautiful expression of female rage and power.

**my mom did not respond to my question on the last slide**

Other Hour Ep. 4 Why Play Matters…There’s power in a room where people feel safe enough to be silly, vulnerable enough to laugh, and free enough to just be.

Play isn’t frivolous.
Play is restorative.
It combats burnout.
It sparks connection and creativity.
It’s often where leadership begins.

Whether it’s sharing what lights you up or discovering something new through a silly game, The Other Hour has become a soft landing space …a kind of social R&D for grownups.

We wrap our pilot run at Fabrik, here’s a little glimpse of the magic from our June edition

Special thanks to:
🎤 @personalitini + Charles Leyte for their amazing @canva moments
-Joni Goldbach, the ultimate UNO sniper
- Farah,Derek, Anna, Jennyand every member who pour energy, care, and joy into this space each week.

And deep gratitude to @jaclyn_15 + Gwen for giving this concept its first home @fabriksocialspaces

If your company, community, or ERG is looking for impactful ways to build connection + beat burnout through facilitated fun, tag them below or send me a message. I’d love to bring The Other Hour to spaces where people deserve to feel more human.

P.S. Too many beautiful moments to name but a few highlights include celebrating our lovely friend @farah_alia_momen on her next big adventure, hosting a style birthday surprise for @celinasdream and the unforgettable afters that somehow ended up at a live dating show and karaoke.

Thank yall for making the magic happen @rishshshshshsh @isabellacassell @startupbaddie @djsmileybeatz @hummasheikh @jesterofthepeace @moneyherway 💚
