Trying to ground myself in gratitude and not rage. Funny how they can live so close together.

People who send texts, make meals, unload dishwashers, ask if you need anything at the store, retail therapy, people who wait & stay, Christmas trees, lively games, invites, a new journal, God & seasons, family, animals, pets, old tv shows, nostalgic movies & finding something new to watch, doctors and nurses who truly care, and pain medicine.
These are a few of my favorite things.

December has not been my favorite so I'm needing a little creative social media reminder tonight that even when it sucks, there are still things all around- glimmers of hope & gratitude.

What's on your list?

I mean I would change some things about this year if I could.

- jobs a joke (but that’s kind of the point of being a comedian)
- ya broke (but like doing fine in my mortgaged home)
- stuck in second gear (that’s cystic fibrosis gear aka its chronic and terminal, but so is life)

Your mother warned you there’d be days like these,
But she didn’t tell you
when the world was brought down to your knees
that...

I’ll be there for you...
When the rain starts to pour
I’ll be there for you...
Like I’ve been there before
I’ll be there for you...
‘Cause you’re there for me too.

And just like that, I’m in the one with all the thanksgivings.

There’s only certain families that have funerals on Halloween. They’re a little bit good and a little bit bad. A sacred day & green whiskey Jell-O shot toasts!

Death doesn’t have to be all sad and scary. Death can be sad and fun! 😂

This week was an all night vigil, a death, a looting, a viewing, a rosary, a day of “rest”, a funeral, an burial, a reception, and then a neighborhood Halloween & some trick or treating for my family.

So proud of my family and especially my kiddos for how much they flexed, listened, felt and gave me space to feel my feelings this week.

And also happy birthday to my Amazing mother in law @grace.giver & auntie @krissalonen (big families tend to have a lot going on all at the same time🤣🫶🏽💕🍀)

Weekend DROP

Friday night Shine Prom with my new friend Jaide, we sang our hearts out, shook our bootys & had the best best time ever!

Saturday: leaning into my auntie side as a sidelines cheerleader for my nephews soccer game - thank gawd he’s good 😂 then casa Bonita - first time for the kids and getting to see the overhaul- omg go now. Sooo good. Picked up our pals from the airport - I love being able to pick people up from the airport and pretending I’m in the opening scene of love actually 😂 someday I hope to take the fam to Gambia too but for now we will just greet at the airport ✈️🦅Introduced nana and papa to k pop demon hunters - I think they hated it but they watched 😂 I love this movie message and music.

Sunday : football and my boi is running qb and defense. I’m so proud I could burst. He is such a good athlete, Andy and I love to tell people he inherited it from us 😂 that’s an adoption joke 🥁 and then off to Denver to “perform” as a Gogo dancer for comedians crossup cancer charity tournament with comedians playing all the roles - refs of course one was blind, announcers with a lot to say, & players - only 3-10 injuries this year and only 1 player had to be taken off the court. Very low scoring games 😂 but fun nonetheless.

Possibly hosting at comedy works tomorrow for New Talent 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 and then I’ll be the venue coordinator at HQ THURSDAY, Friday & Saturday for High Plains Comedy Festival! I just love all things CF - disease, comedy and fake money😜 Come see some incredible performances and say hi if you see me🫶🏽🎤

Hey friends family folks in the instagram stratosphere.

You may have heard, but I am a stand-up comedian &gd inspiration ✌🏽

Why did I become a standup you (didn’t) ask?! Because laughter has healed me my whole life and I want to bring healing and love and that good feeling to my community in bigger ways.

Cue sad🎵 - my life hasn’t taken me to the easiest of places - cystic fibrosis & diabetes and the hospital rooms I’ve sat in, to having a dad with some pretty severe mental health needs who ended up homeless, to becoming an adoptive and foster parent to my beautiful kiddos- to that late in life ADHD diagnosis - I’m intimately familiar with hard things- no pun intended hubs 😘🍆

Right now im performing and growing with @momsunhingedcomedy and the women in that group are all top shelf. I’m blown away with what Andrea has dreamed and created

I’m playing around every Monday night at Bootstrap Brewing under the open mic tutelage of the amazing Denny Driscoll

I’m coached by the notoriously brilliant Robert Hartwell and his incredible team including my faves Andrew and Elizabeth. 👋🏾The people I’ve met through Strength on Stages — especially my Cohort girls are some of the most inspirational and encouraging friends in my phone.

And then there are the neighbors, friends and family that make me weepy and motivated with how they have supported me and let me practice on them.

I’m so excited for where this dream is headed - and I’m eager to entertain!

So here is my ask…. If you are a business owner and want to sponsor a comedy event will you reach out to me?

If you are “just a fan” and want to just support me stepping into this fully - let’s call it an “investment in the arts” you can always Venmo me or send a check 😚😜 mimi-salonen

if you are looking for something to bring to your people that is unique and fun either over the holidays or further in the future please send me an email and let’s collaborate! Will travel!

And if you just wanna say atta girl Mimi leave a comment, like and share this post!

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better- but because I knew you— I have been changed, for good.

I call this family dinner with the in laws and a Brother Husband: which is the lesser known version of a sister wife; benefits of a brother husband include ;

1- not having to sleep with the same dude👏🏾
2- because this particular breed does not have the children— more time for them to dote on your children. 👧🏾 👦🏾
3- not all models of brother husbands are models but the good ones are if you know what I mean 💅🏿
4- if you’re really lucky they’ll have a dash of OCD and a people pleasing complex they haven’t completely broken in therapy yet. 😇

Gah andy and I feel so lucky and happy to have had this time with the family.
They hung photos, washed doors, went to practices and even got on the stage with me At bootstrap.

Thankful for the ways my people show up 🫶🏽 and just to clear the air, I ask forgiveness for the things you blame me for- but then again…. 😈
