Reminder - women will weigh in for the 5th Annual Lifting the Stigma Friday August 1st from 9am-noon or 2pm-6pm. There will be no day of weigh ins without prior approval. If you have messaged and we approved day of weigh ins, dm us here again just to remind us (the husband of this group is unorganized and forgets things).
Weigh in for the men will be Saturday the 2nd from 8am - 10am. There will be no day of weigh ins without prior approval (see not above about DM’s and the husband).

You must have a current RIPL membership prior to showing up at weigh in, and you must bring all of your gear for equipment check - if you are wearing it on the platform, bring it with you.

What do you get when you combine post oak with Brazilian canary wood? Well if you put them in the hands of Stuart Sloan at Wilsons Wood Works, you get this custom cutting board that 1 of our lifters will walk away with. Of course, the key to any wood cutting board is keeping it sealed, so you will also get his hand crafted, all natural board butter to keep your new cutting board in great shape.
Stuart does not seek the attention, but he has seen first hand the effects of suicide and mental health struggles have on families, and he has committed to help us lift the stigma on suicide.
We have not decided yet exactly how the board will be awarded, but 1 lifter will definitely walk away with it. So as a lifter, how do you think we ought to determine the winner?

7 years later…

14 concerts, 10 competitions, 5 marching seasons, 3 drum major seasons, countless practices, football games, memories, laughs, smiles, friends made, drum sticks broken, and even some tears all over in the blink of an eye. looking back at the first time i walked into the band hall as a nervous 6th grader, having no clue what i was doing, i can’t help but smile.

band has brought many emotions over the years but never one quite like this. knowing this was the final time i’ll step into mustang stadium as a band member, knowing this was the last time i’ll march on that field, knowing this was the last time i’ll dismiss my band, and knowing that after i put my drums on the shelf and boots away, i’ll never bring them back out again. it’s a bittersweet feeling. i can’t help but be happy and grateful for all the friends i’ve made, memories shared, laughs had, and lessons learned, but i can’t shake the feeling that i’ll never experience high school band again.

my advice to my kids in this family i’ve chosen? don’t blink, you’ll miss it. sometimes it’s hard, sometimes you want to quit, sometimes you wish you never began in the first place, but at the end of the day nothing can quite compare to the feeling of sitting with your chosen family in the stands cheering on your friends as a community. it goes by quick, and you don’t realize it until it’s there. don’t take this time you have for granted.

thank you mustang band for giving me the opportunity and trusting me to be your drum major these past 3 years. and thank you Jesus for the family you’ve brought to me, this life you give me, and the blessing of being a part of such an amazing group. i’m proud of how far we’ve come and i can’t wait to see what the future holds for these kids. it’s always a great day to be alive and a mustang❤️❤️ (also shoutout to yall for making me y’alls band sweetheart, y’all are the sweetest😉)
