Save it, steal it....it's all yours ....

The "after school" hours are where the battle is won or lost. Here is a 90-minute plan that actually works. ⏱

No expensive toys. No lesson teacher. Just a structure any Nigerian household can run.

3–3:30

Decompress
Snack + free play outside. Let the school-day stress leave their body before any screen or homework.
3:30–5

Homework + reading
Phone in another room. No exceptions. Research shows focus improves 40% without device in sight.
5–5:30

Screen time (earned)
One episode or 30 min of a game. Co-view where possible. This is the reward, not the default.
5:30→

Family, dinner, wind-down
No screens. Conversation, chores, reading. Brain begins preparing for sleep.
The problem is not that Nigerian parents are lazy.

The problem is that nobody gave us a structure. We were handed the children. And the screens. And the WiFi. And said "figure it out."

So here is a structure. Steal it. Adapt it. Make it yours.

The key insight: screen time as a reward rather than a default changes everything about how children relate to it.

When a child knows screens come after homework — not instead of it — the brain begins to associate the screen with earned pleasure. The desperation fades. The addiction loop weakens.

And the "no phone during homework" rule? Non-negotiable. Research is clear — even a phone face-down on the desk reduces cognitive performance by up to 20%.

Put it in another room. Not on the table. Another room.

Is this perfect? No. Will there be resistance at first? Yes. Will it work? Every time.

Save this and share with another parent tonight. 🤎

How would you prefer to be corrected? In public or in private?

Think about your child as human too, your choice of where and how to correct affects how your child see themselves.

What is your preferred option? Public or private
