If you had told me 2,812 days ago the places running would take me, I’d never have believed you. This sport has grown me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. It shaped me as a man and as a leader. It taught me discipline when I didn’t want it, humility when I needed it, and resilience every single time the ground came back up to meet me. But none of that is why this is hard to write. What running gave me above everything else is family. From the teammates I grew with at Tri-Center, to the family I found at Wayne, to every runner I’ve crossed paths with along the way: this sport carries a community unlike anything else I’ve ever known. We suffer together. We celebrate together. We show up for each other at 6 a.m. when the world is still asleep. That’s not something you just leave behind. Although the future is bringing exciting opportunities, I won’t pretend this farewell is easy. You don’t spend 2,812 days at something and walk away easily. Running is in the way I carry myself, in the way I approach hard things, in the way I know without question that I can face whatever comes next. So to the worst sport in the world: thank you. For every giant hill. Every race I doubted. Every morning I showed up anyway. I’m better for all of it. And I’m grateful for every single person who ran even a mile of this journey with me.
