🇳🇿 The New Zealand polo community is united in an urgent search for the historic trophy used for nearly 50 years to honour winners of the Milford New Zealand Polo Open. The Auckland Polo Club, based in Clevedon, launched an appeal after the cup—the most prestigious in the country—went missing in mid-February.

Lucy Ainsley, Executive Director of the New Zealand Polo Open, described the disappearance as a devastating blow to the sport. "It is a historical landmark known to everyone; it represents the pinnacle of New Zealand polo," she stated. "The trophy marks the legacy of every team that has fought to win it over the last five decades."

Ainsley, who has a long-standing career in the sport, highlighted that while a reward of US$ 1800 is being offered for its safe return, the item is "priceless and irreplaceable." The loss has sparked an outcry, with supporters launching social media campaigns and urging the public to contact the police with any leads.

According to local reports, the trophy’s absence was discovered shortly after the 49th Open concluded last February. A club member had taken the cup for safekeeping, intending to return it to the club premises, only to realise a few days later that it had vanished.

"We are desperate for its return," Ainsley added. "It holds far more sentimental value than monetary worth." The Milford New Zealand Polo Open remains the largest tournament in Australasia, attracting elite international players to compete for the now-missing silver. 🏆

We are nothing but grateful for what 2025 has given us! Between our players representing the USA in the HPRC World Arena Polo Championship, and our men’s team winning our first DII National Champion title, we have no complaints! A special thank you goes out to those that helped make this year as amazing as it was. Here’s to hoping that 2026 is just as good or better than this past year! 💙🤍

p.s. You should order some UK Polo merch to head into the new year looking your best 😉

🎉 20th Anniversary Celebratory Fundraiser Recap 🎊

We are so thankful for everyone who was able to attend our fundraiser and made the night the amazing event that it was. Your support is so greatly appreciated! The night was a major success with our Alumni vs Varsity game followed by a USPA Governors’ game. We hope that everyone in attendance had as much fun watching the matches as we had hosting them. Stay tuned for more fun events this year, and again thank you all. Go Cats! 🤍💙

D2 MEN’S NATIONAL CHAMPIONS‼️

We are so thrilled and proud of our boys for bringing home the champion title at nationals this past weekend! They played their hearts out and all their practicing paid off. We also had three players win the all-star awards! Congratulations to Taylor, Rehan, and Alejandro on their awards. The girls fought hard and came back as semi finalists. We are so proud of all of our riders for their hard work this season, with both teams placing as regional champs last month as well. We are thankful for an amazing end to the season, and already planning for next year. Go cats!! 💙
